I think it was a great performance. It lacked the glam and fun of Grammy performance but Oscars are a different kind of show and we expected this.

I think her voice sounded good, especially in the pre-chorus since she struggled to hit the notes there lately but the fact that her voice cracked worries me, did her voice ever crack live?  Cracks are always a sign that something vocally isn't right. I wish she would stop smoking. :ohno:

At the end of the day I think emotion wins all over... who cares about the flaws when she delivered a superemotional performance? You can tell this wasn't just another performance, she was nervous. It was brilliant.

Her voice cracked like 1.5 times, get over it. The emotion she poured into it made it perfect.

Yes, the performance was not flawless vocally but the acting and emotion were both amazing. It's a very hard song to sing, if it was a disappointing as you guys are saying, I'm sure we wouldn't be seeing the massive surge in sales, streams and gp praise.

Well the vocals weren't the best but I had a huge smile on my face the whole time, I love it how it was filmed directly from the stage just like in the Shallow performance from the film. That final moment with their faces next to each other showing all that chemistry was so beautiful.

I think the Sound of Music medley was much better but this will also go down as one of her most iconic and remembered performances tbh.

Not disappointed at all. Sure, there were 1 or 2 cracks and the last AAAAAA was wobbly but it doesn't take away from the overall performance.

Bradley’s voice cracked once in his solo, Gaga’s voice didn’t crack and she hit the note but the final ahhhhh wasn’t sustained and as “pretty” as she has done it before.

The performance is best watched rather than listened to.

OP, I understand you but honestly it wasn't totally their fault.

Apart from the nerves and everything, there was literally a camera in their face, and the worst part IMO was the entire mix. None of the performances sounded good - the microphones were way too raw without much reverb (watch Jennifer Hudson's performance again, it's like she couldn't hear herself and she rarely messes up a performance), so that showcased Bradley's inexperience even further.

The instruments sounded so disconnected from the vocals so I don't think Bradley or Gaga could hear themselves properly. Sure, they rehearsed, but their nervous energy definitely affected the vocals.

I do find it interesting though in every Shallow performance, she's always hit the first "meet the ground" and never the second one. It's like she changes her technique halfway through? I was confident that she'd nail it for the Oscars but oh well.  Oh maybe she was stressed because she was playing the piano at the same time. If you watch it closely, her fingers were shaking a little.

Guess the movie version will always be perfect.
