FinnishGypsy 899
2 hours ago, RahrahWitch said: She looks so grateful for the award Her reaction to the win appeared VERY genuine to me; she collapsed into her sister sobbing, and then walked up and immediately just shouted “THANK YOU SO MUCH” while still crying, as her voice was breaking. And it broke again when she abruptly ended her speech with another “thank you” as she clearly became too overwhelmed. Plus the candid b&w backstage photo, wherein she’s clearly still in absolute shock. I don’t know why people assume she’s overacting or otherwise faking it; I mean, how the hell would YOU respond the second you WIN AN OSCAR?!* (Well, okay, I would personally be particularly shocked since I’m not famous, but you know what I mean). I’m pretty sure we’d all be just as emotional as her in that moment (I mean, I practically was anyway)! *ETA: I just remembered they did the same **** whenever Halle Berry won BA. As the only black actress to have ever won the award to date, she was understandably sobbing, and people just thought it was either annoying or somehow hilariously entertaining, and the speech was parodied for ages. I genuinely don’t understand why/how people can’t empathize with the concept of working towards something seemingly impossible your entire life, and then actually achieving it, against all odds. Honestly, it’s probably rooted, once again, in sexism and the idea that all women are hysterical creatures ruled by their emotions. I mean, Neil Armstrong’s eyes were filled with tears in the first picture taken immediately after him having completed the first moon walk, and no one thought he was being annoying/pretentious/dramatic.
