AJRocketMan 2,684
I feel like the only Gaga fan on the planet that didn't care for the A Star Is Born era. It was just an entertaining movie with entertaining music that helps drive the narrative of the film. I saw it three times, and now I don't have any desire to watch the movie again. I didn't expect her to receive such a huge career boost with this movie, although I figured it was going to be successful. However, I never cared whether Gaga was ever going to be the darling of the GP again. I just wanted her to remain true to herself and maintain a close relationship with her fanbase. Seeing her act all posh and formal in her interviews threw me off. And her whole "You helped me find Stefani again" speech towards Bradley was so off-putting. I never wanted another Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Monroe. I fell in love with a truly one-of-a-kind artist.

giskardsb 12,565
If not ASIB it would eventually have been something else. Her talent is too high to not eventually reconnect in some way.

People were tired of the shock factor, perhaps unfairly, and being stripped backed helped. Even if she had just done "camp," like Enigma, I'm not sure it would have gone over well after ARTPOP. People were so used to her having these huge numbers (forgetting that a lot of it came before streaming was popularized) and #1 that they forgot that Joanne still did better than a lot of pop girls in pure album sales. Plus it was Grammy nominated, etc. I think she's always been true to herself, that whole NY Mag article pointed out that her "authenticity" is being "inauthentic"—e.g., being theatrical and slipping in and out of roles isn't a bad thing. I liked ASIB a lot and I think she was being herself (but just shocked/nervous at the level of acting success), but I feel like she came off oddly sometimes. Lainey kind of wondered if she felt pressure being around "serous artist" Bradley, or at least that is the way he presents himself now, to be the same way. And I know there is a lot of pressure for the Oscar circuit and to come off the "right" way and so on, because the people there are super petty, misogynistic b*tches who dragged JLaw for not caring enough and Anne for caring too much. Even her over the top Grammys speech still sounded less tense, and more her, so as much as I love following the Oscars I almost wonder if it would be better for her to stick to where she feels more comfortable. Bling 31,242
TBH I agree and love Joanne and ASIB, however Joanne has limited replay value for me and same goes for ASIB only because I've seen the movie so many times and I'm only in the mood for heartbreaking ballads and love songs for so long. If Gaga's next project (#LG6) doesn't come soon (considering all this exposure), as well as have more of a dance/house/electronic vibe, I think it will be a...... choice. There's a lot riding on her next album as a lot more eyes are on her now and yes, she has the GP's attention again and is more highly regarded and respected BUT People are ready to dance to new Gaga music and that's a fact. I've thought this since Joanne and I've heard several people say similar things recently. Many of her fans are LGBTQ (me) and women. These people also go out dancing and want to vibe with Gaga and dance music. I could go way more onto this but I think I've said my piece. discord.gg/hausofdelulu Celebrating 1000 members! The thing is Taylor is either dropping TS7 now, or a single now and an album in a few months, and there is no way Gaga is dropping her album at the same time or even in the same time frame. I doubt any artist, except maybe Adele, would do it either. Especially as both belong to labels under UMG. Late Q3/Q4 makes the most sense and is still within a 3 year time frame from when Joanne was first released.

People need to know careers have highs and lows. Gaga will have successful and less successful records in the future. As long as she keeps on doing fresh and new things it will be good. But it is kind of obvious the audience will come and go without her needing to be saved
Doot 2
Just my opinion, but I’d say she’s back in the worlds good graces again, but she’s at a very major point in the road: she can either make the next album something in the same genre as she rose to fame because of, something pop, something electronic, and solidify her power in her field as well as a presence in the next decade or she can continue to ride this “glamourous, classic lady” image she’s created for the last few years and do something else safe im on board for either one, but I will say that I miss the artistic, avant-garde electronic cohesion she used to have in her work. I miss her having a dance music presence.

The only thing that such high numbers in streaming mean is that you must have many young people listening to it. Gaga became a household name initially because of her electro-pop, dance music. She’s now went through the process of a career low, slowly regaining the GP’s appreciation in a new light, gaining their confidence... Cheek to Cheek, Joanne and A Star Is Born were all stops on her mission to reclaim the focus from the GP, but the question now is...how will she solidify that? 7 minutes ago, derpmonster said: The fact that Shallow is getting more than 5M streams a day on Spotify means that young people must be streaming.
