I still fail to see how it was delusional. It wasn't far-fetched. A very respected songwriter teams up with one of the biggest stars to send a powerful message. Post-MeToo era, this song would have won. No doubt. Odds were really on her favour (once again, film experts saying it would go to them).

Sure, it wasn't a lock. But it made sense since there wasn't a big competition that year. See You Again failed to be nominated and Sam Smith's wasn't really well received among critics.

Also, back then a lot of songs won at different award shows, but this time there's a clear winner.  

I agree with everything you said. However, thinking that TIHTY would win made a lot of sense. It did win awards and it got a lot of praise. It wasn't the unexpected nominee you made it seem to be.

I feel like it would be a huge upset if Shallow didn't win the Oscar for best original song. It's better than the other contestants in almost every measure of the word "best".

Neither did it win the Globe, nor the Grammy. Heck it didnt even win the Critics choice award. Shallow won all of them and more.

I am still laughing at what the actress said about BOS, ma'am it's literaly played during the ending credits    and the description just screams Octavia to me or maybe Janelle Monáe ... she said she's a black woman and she played supporting roles in Moonlight and Hidden Figures!

It wasn't nominated to the Globe because IT COULDNT. It was a documentary song and it went against the rules.

Once again, it lost all those awards (Grammys, CCA and others) to Glory, a song that wasn't nominated the same year as TIHTY. I'm not saying TIHTY was better than Shallow or had better chances. Of course Shallow dominated more than TIHTY did.

This is not a Shallow vs TIHTY thing. My point is that rooting for TIHTY wasn't crazy or delusional since it was clearly the front runner for the Oscars.
