Who wasn't back then?

Many people. Discrimination is a choice.

Just because it’s considered the norm doesn’t make it right.

We have since established that a man who was a prolific film actor during a time where majority of the country shared his views, was a **** head.

Im fairly certain if people searched, they’d probably find some negative **** about vast majority of the American icons.

However, the man is dead, this was almost 50 years ago, and has no impact on the legacy he left in American culture which has nothing to do with his political or racial views.

The point people are trying to make is that vast majority of people during the time period in which he lived shared his views, that was the standard at the time.

If we went back and tried to tear down every American icon due to their now antiquated ideals and beliefs, we wouldn’t have any American icons.

The man is dead. What good does this do exactly now? Gonna unbury him or something?

Focus in what happened now, for the future. Not the past.

You don’t have to justify their discrimination. Accept it for what it is. But don’t justify it.

I’m not saying cancel everyone. But do not justify it. We must not.

Some “American icons” are pretty awful. Such as Andrew Jackson who is responsible for the death of thousands or millions of Native Americans. Oh but “removing Natives was the norm! Whites needed their stolen land!!!” Ummm no. You will NOT find me justifying it.

These people are historical figures. We must analyze them based on the good AND bad. They are not free of criticism.

Yes, we are going to unbury him so that he can make a twitter and an instagram so that people can spam him with hate messages and then once he reads every single one of them he can go back in the ground.

And cancel him for a great ending.

River

Everyone were racist and mainly homophobic back then, so what's the point?

We still live their shitty education of the parents from his period with the majority of the people, we still have homophobia and racism and it's pretty much rising..

and tbh some of the straight men are shittier than him these days..

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

I don't get why we continue to support these types of men... Personally it doesn't make sense. It's also not an issue of "oh it was a long time ago".... Is that the new standard? Where we just have to wait a few years so that our past can be shelved away? Please tell me he evolved?

And tbh, most people don't even see John Wayne as a bad man. They see him as the alpha male... And that's the "fake news" that certain people ignore and use anyway for their narrative.
