Shawn Mendes apologizes for liking transphobic tweet

First off, he liked something he had second thoughts about or did so accidentally and apologized. That should be fair enough.

But I didnt find the initial "joke" funny at all. I'm not trans but I can only imagine what they go thru.

A person born male may live their life as a woman because that is how they feel inside and not yet have the surgery. Imagine living and feeling like your true self, a woman.....just to be told you have testicular cancer.

There is nothing funny about that so I dont get the humor in it.

To each their own...

THIS. Especially when the entire 'it's ma'am' joke (i use that term very loosely) is targeting a trans woman who was being mocked in public for standing up for herself and nearly four hundred trans women were killed last year. But yet again, trans voices are ignored because people think we're being oversensitive by standing up for ourselves.

I read all the responses and was so shocked to not see anyone mention the fact that this would be a nightmare for a person going thru such. It's like nobody thought of that aspect.

While I do not know the challenges people like this endure, I do have great empathy and respect to them as I know it's a tough road.

You are absolutely correct. Thanks for your comment!  Xo

It's a joke. It's not supposed to be taken seriously. Comedy has always pushed boundaries and sent people right to the edge. We have got to, as a culture, stop being so "outraged" at the smallest things. You can decipher the difference between a joke, and true/dangerous transphobia.
