Come on. Their campaign is great but everyone wants to "really win" and let's not play the sympathy vote card when Yalitza is actually facing all that. It's incredibly hard for a woman of color to become big in movies in the US, let alone an indigenous Mexican woman.

I'm glad people are reporting on it and it's really unlikely to change the outcome of anything.

The issue is real. But this narrative pushed for Yalitza to get sympathy votes could be very real too. A campaign for the Oscars is literally like politics. They do everything they can to get those votes. That’s why Netflix spend almost 20 million dollars for it. And notice how no actresses were named.

Edit: Also how this became viral just in time for the voting

Yes. But If this were Gaga and an anonymous group of people were allegedly trying to sabotage her for being bisexual or something, we would all be behind it.

When it's a minority who does face real discrimination, I'm okay with the benefit of doubt. I believe that it's unlikely that news of others trying to sabotage her is likely to cause a significant gain in the votes for her.

Exactly!!! Look how people are behind Yalitza now and rooting for her because of this. If that was for Gaga, I would still say the same thing. The timing is just too suspicious.

That article about Yalitza is really part of the Netflix campaign to get sympathy votes. Nextflix has shameless campaign for this Oscar season. They really want to win big. There was also an article about some crews/actors of Roma that wasn’t able to attend other award shows because they were denied to get a visa, i think.

I'm disappointed but not surprised in y'all. I won't personally go in further debate about this issue because we disagree about something fundamental and each have our own agendas here.

My agenda is to not assume an agenda. Y'all's is to read in between the lines even when there's no strong evidence for it.

As a follower of Oscars, I agree. Reminds me of how hard Weinstein’s Miramax and how hard they really go for the Oscars. Remember Gwyneth winning and Shakespeare In Love winning over Saving Private Ryan? This is literally the same.

I’m sorry if what I said make you feel bad in any way. But as a follower of the Oscars, this things do happen. The issue does exist. Not denying that.

just because something like it does happen in the world, you think people at netflix & everyone alike in their positions wouldn't abuse it in their own advantage? you do know that's exactly what's been happening in literally every single thing, ever, since the beginning of time, right? :emma:

Yes. You can actually see all the movies, including ASIB, trying to push it this week. For a campaign so well done, its even more suspicious that Roma doest have another story around for this week.

But Netflix is pushing really hard though. It makes ASIB’s campaign look like a dwarf compared to them. ASIB was literally not pushing any narrative until it was too late in awards season. And that too because of Gaga’s Best Actress speech at the NBR.
