I’m not surprised you made this thread...

On topic tho.. I’m muslim girl and I love and live for my gays or any part of LGBTQ community. I honestly do.

AKA we’re not all like that.

EDIT: “Around 400 parents, predominantly Muslim, signed the petition of objection”

So they’re not all muslims... Interesting you choose that as your thread title :oprah:

EDIT 2: I see the title is the same as on Daily Mail. I apologize for assuming you made it but I still stand by my thoughts that it’s wrong, click baity and provoking.

I don't care how pro-LGBTQIA+, you personally and other Christian, Jewish person, or wtfever might be, you're all taking part in a massive institution that's in direct opposition to people like me. You guys are the reason the suicide for queer youth is so high, and it's still illegal in countries to this day. I'm sick of this charade.

edit: semantics

wow. This is harsh and I don’t think I deserved it but okay. I understand your frustration but all I can say - we are not all the same. You blaming me for someone’s suicide. Me, who literally offered my help to ANY person on GGD regarding ANY problem is not right. Hate can’t be ended by being more hateful.

Altough I agree with what you are saying about religion you don't need to get personal and attack someone who is actually on our side :noparty:

I agree with you that the title is click-bait and all of that but I mean I know plenty of catholic people who love and support me but that doesn’t mean I support the Catholic Church. Idk, religion can help people personally but it’s harmed society.

Im glad you are progressive but there’s also a lot of people who aren’t that are in all types of religions.

Well it IS outrageous that Muslim people, who know first-hand what it's like to be discriminated against, are protesting a policy called "No Outsiders"... so that title makes perfect sense to me.

Oh Honey. Is it that time of the year again for you :spin: Just say what you holding in and go, no need for fake pretenses :lana:

On topic though, it's sad that anyone signed it for that matter. I would like to remind people that they are gay Muslims whom y'all conveniently forget about to push this sort of narrative.

But the thing is I don’t expect you to support my beliefs. It’s what I grew up with and it will be there forever. It gave me hope when I had no one to talk to. What I expect from you is to respect it. For example I don’t necessarily support some of your decisions but I won’t say you’re the reason someone killed them selves. It’s not right.

I guess I haven’t caused any disrespect...

All I’m saying is that people are allowed to be critical of religion as an institution, but not necessarily critical of ALL the people.

I worked with an African Muslim girl and she was the one most non-judgmental and sweetest persons I had ever met. Super down to earth. I've also worked with LGBTQ people that I can't stand, because they are constantly judge everyone.

People are people. Some are good some are bad. That's it.

Sad that people always feel compelled to take subjects like these and connect them to horribly generalized clichés and anti-religion propaganda :smh:

Anyway, these things obviously need to be stopped and discouraged. I applaud the school for teaching same-sex subjects from five year olds onwards :applause: A lot of other schools (every one of them tbh) should do this.

The wider problem here is that I know a lot of straight atheist people who would also feel a little bit uncomfortable with that idea. Just like many people would feel that a gay Disney prince or princess would be abominable or "not fitting" despite supporting equality in theory.

There's still a widespread undercurrent of homophobia in Western society, so I think it's more productive to respond to these people with a "we understand your concerns and can sympathize with them, but there are good reasons for this decision and we can tell you about them if you're willing to listen" sentiment than to reject their whole religious identity at once. Only a few decades ago were gay people still imprisoned in secular Western countries :rip: We shouldn't forget that. We're not saints. Not at all.

But yeah, **** the parents who won't listen and who take their kids out of these schools. You can't just expect everything in life to align with your own beliefs and preferences, that's childish af.

There’s also gay Trump supporters and gay far-right conservatives (not that I’m comparing Muslims to Trump supporters). So this argument is kind of invalid.

All I’m saying is that people are allowed to be critical of religion as an institution, but not necessarily critical of ALL the people.

Critical in a way that it’s not generalizations, offensive, or rude is always right. Critical where you say “you’re all like that”,”people who believe this stuff are stupid”,”you are the reason people kill them selves”- never right.

I agree that Islam like every religion is old school and that it has hateful stuff in it and that’s the fact I can’t deny. People need to understand that discussion is always allowed as long as it’s respectful. I don’t mind your answer because you were respectful.
