INLA in a plot sense...

Also, while we're on the topic of unpacking some implied meanings - whats the deal with Ally's mother?

One subtext i think was implied was that she must have been an alcoholic/died from drunk driving. When ally says her father knows all about drunks, it shows a wedding picture in the side of the frame, which i think is meant to clue the audience in. Later, ally rather aggressively scolds jackson and says she'll never get on his motorcycle if he's been drinking (i found it odd that she would say this unmotivated and in such a scolding way since this was only the third day they knew each other). Lastly, after the grammys, ally is having breakfast with her dad, and he says something about how he failed her/takes on the blame. i dont know fully what to make but i think there's some implications.

yeah it does bother me. and i dont buy the "he planned the suicide so much in advance" thing, he does kill himself in a knee jerk reaction after all. its probably just bad/lazy writing of the script

he didn't "plan the suicide" that far in advance. He was just in general a suicidal person.

this was hardly the first time he tried to commit suicide. At rehab, he tells an old man on a bench about his suicide attempt at age 13 when he fell from the ceiling fan and his father didnt even notice the ceiling fan on the floor for months.

This. Some people need to rewatch the movie before dragging the writers.

He didn't plan the suicide in advance but it wasn't the first time he has thought on killing himself. There are subtle hints during the film and in the scene when they discuss the song he implies that she would find the song when the notebook comes back to her (since she is the wife and she would recieve his things) ... just bc u are a lazy watcher doesn't mean the script is.

Thank you! The movie and the script are way deeper than most of the watchers who want things handed to them in a plate.

To reiterate what others have already said, Jackson only wrote the chorus.

And, frankly, I don't think the question of whether he was already contemplating suicide (was going to put this as a spoiler, but this has been mentioned multiple times in this thread already..) when he wrote it is relevant here, as the chorus by itself is simply about loving one person forever. From Jackson's POV, he does not want to "feel another touch"/"start another fire"/"know another kiss" etc. etc., as he has already found Ally.

i srill dont buy it. in my opinion, its way too convenient. the screenplay is the worst thing about the movie after all, so... and no need to call me a lazy watcher because u dont agree with me

Sometimes it feels like I've got a war in my mind, I wanna get off but I keep riding the ride

Isn't it because he was thinking of committing suicide?

He only wrote the chorus and he didn't leave it in her notebook for her to find after he died. He says he left it there for when she became 'herself again'. He felt like he was losing her and that she would be consumed by stardom and he wanted her to know that she is his true love. Unlike some others, this scene never confused me, it makes perfect sense to me.

My mom and I were watching it and she pointed out that jack said “when you came back to you” when I thought he said “when it came back to you”. And I thought she was mishearing then she put the rewinded and I think it did say that. So now I’m confused lol. We watched it on our firestick so maybe the substitles were messed up

The script reads 'when you came back to you'

Jack wanted Ally to find it when she would not be consumed by the busy life of her new career and the stardom and reach for her notebook again to write songs like she used to. He was scared of losing the girl he fell in love with, scared of her losing sight of herself, but hopeful she'd become herself again and have a reminder that he is her true love waiting for her in the form of those lyrics tucked in her notebook.

I choose to believe it was "IT" despite what the script says :legend::fan: Given the Grammy scene, i'm thinking he badly wanted to "disappear" a whole lot more than being concerned about her getting back to herself, if ya know whata mean ;)
