Teaching Gaga's Career in my Classroom

I'm in college and I am crafting a 'creative unit' that teaches to state standards, covers the 'core' issues and lays the groundwork for the remainder of the class. However, the 'creative' aspect is an additional layer that is covered throughout the unit that students can refer too.

So, I have crafted:

The Influence of Media: Lady Gaga's career through the lens of the media. (working title)

Obviously, it's a journalism class. I won't get into specifics, but it covers analysis of news pieces in general, writing review pieces, the spread of lies, how the media impacts the rise and falls of things. Largely, it's looking at a variety of type of news stories and the REAL world impact pieces have.

However, throughout the unit, as I teach them these ideas/concepts, we will use Lady Gaga examples and have them write about Gaga. Students will learn about the meat dress coverage, the lies of the penis (pending for appropriateness), look at album reviews (good and bad) for ARTPOP, and how the media could have (or did) contribute to her career fall and how it could have contributed to her rising again.

Then, we will write album reviews of songs (super clean, non-controversial ones) and maybe even stab at a review of A Star is Born songs.

I will pass the torch of Gaga's career to my children. :lana:

If I'm lucky, it'll be the unit I teach in my first classroom experience next month!

Wow thats amazing! Best of luck in this. For once I wanna be a student :cryga:

I'm nervous tbh. I have never crafted a 'creative' unit and I really have to remove my stan bias out of the mix to make it objective and fair.

If this unit is approved, I wanna make each unit about an idea, person or place! It's been really fun to think about and design. I have 1-2 days entirely planned out and I'm finding examples from 2008-2009. I wanna cover her career in order.

I did something similar my freshman year in high school. I don't remember the lesson but I did a powerpoint on her impact on culture and global take over. I felt like the **** with my slideshow
