WorstBehavior 1,141
I think it’s pretty clear to most of us that this is a Glenn Close’s award to lose. She won the Golden Globe, Critics Choice and will probably win the SAG. But, today I realized the academy REALLY loves ROMA. Not only did Yalitza Aparicio get the nom, Marina De Tavira got it for her supporting role. ROMA is the most nominated film (along with The Favorite) this year. Which brings me to my point.. I honestly think a lot of members voted for Yalitza Aparicio to win. She’s like the fairy tale star of this season. And then you have Glenn Close. The long overdue actress who has been nominated 6 times (lost every single one of them) and 7 times now with her role in The Wife. Members will vote for her simply because it’s her time. This could result in a split of votes between Aparicio & Close. And a possible Gaga or Olivia Colman upset. So in conclusion, I think this could be a race between Gaga and Olivia after all. But, Glenn Close remains as the front runner for sure. At least for now.
REALITY 77,430
Well, every other award besides Best Picture doesn't use a preferential ballot, right? So, if most of the votes go to either Close or Aparicio, then either one of them will win (unless it's a straight up tie, which is very unlikely). Honestly, I think this category is very open right now, with the exception of Melissa McCarthy. I haven't seen Can You Ever Forgive Me?, but I've heard that she's spectacular in it, so it's a shame no one's really talking about her, but hey, she got a nomination and that's incredible. Before the nominations today, I saw this as either Glenn's, Gaga's, or Colman's, but right now, I'm starting to see this as a four-way race between the prior three and Aparicio. Her nomination was really surprising to me, and considering Roma has a lot of nominations, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if she won. melon 3,593
no I think Yalitza being nominated is a cinderella moment enough, the four other women who have consistently been nominated and talked about critically throughout the year have a lot more traction for the Oscar Glenn will win, she deserves it for her career, Olivia is second for now but I would love for her to win, she was just astounding Gaga was amazing but as I thought a long time ago, people will reward her in Best Song and that gives them no incentive to vote for her in Actress, particularly when she was good but nothing quite like Colman imo Melissa is amazing, but she just is not in a great spot really, she keeps doing flop films as well as churning out critically acclaimed performances. this nom should hopefully pave the way for even more in BA because she truly is gifted! show me to me please
AlexanderMagno 10,746
For the last 10 years the Best Actress oscar went to the most predictable. Plus, Best Actress has the tradition of awarding overdue actresses. So, no reason to think this year will be any different. (Roma will get probably be able to snatch half of those nominations. The rest will go to The Favourite. ASIB will probably be the biggest loser of the night, although Best Picture remains uncertain).
SwissMonster 29,120
I definitely can see some Close voters jumping to Aparicio. That definitely could help Gaga SwissMonster®️ - Creating controversy since 1999

Doncho 27,241
I dont think Yalitza will be even close to winning. Its between Glenn, Olivia and Gaga, with Glenn being the front runner. I think the SAG winner will be the Oscar winner...
zakariah 11,722
I'm still waiting for the SAG winners to be announced before I make any concrete decisions but as of now I still feel like glenn close or olivia colman will win, yalitza's nomination is a win in & of itself, I don't think they're gonna give an oscar to someone who's not even a working actor, & might probably not even carry on acting, that would kinda be disrespectful to the other nominees (even gaga to some degree)
