Is ASIB cropped differently than in theaters?

I feel dumb even asking, but I could swear that the digital film is cropped off at the top and bottom compared to how it looked in theaters. There are moments where the top of someone's head is cut off awkwardly, closeups where you see less of someone's shirt than you saw in that closeup in theaters. Sometimes it feels like I'm watching a torrent recording of the theater version. Has anyone else watched yet? Am I crazy?

How are you watching it?

edit: and is the image letterboxing? or filling the entire screen?

I bought it on my PS4. And it's letterboxed.

I think it matches the trailer. Is it possible there was more on screen in the theater?

Letterboxes are the black bars on top and bottom of the video. It's used when a video isn't filmed in 16:9 ratio but a wider ratio.

it was shot anamorphic so there is only that version of the footage available (as in there is no top and bottom of frame being hidden by the black bars). But if you saw it in a theater without the black bars then that means it would have been scaled, but would be cutting off the sides.

Anamorphic 2.40:1, yes.

No change on top and bottom but wider. When I saw it in theater it was cropped on both sides, almost like the trailer. Not really relevant on this screencap but it really adds scope to the whole movie !

To get the full format in theater, it really depends on the width of the screen. Black bars on top and bottom is rare in theater nowadays, besides cineclubs. They usually opt for a bigger image on screen and just crop the sides.

Late to the party but I got a diamond heart
