There would undoubtedly be a larger turn out of young voters, but also people voting leave in an act of defiance against the current state of our domestic politics. Saint Laurent 4,862 Posted January 15, 2019 Share Posted January 15, 2019 I'm not exactly sure what difference a general election at this point would make - clearly Corbyn is just trying his luck, even though it's almost certain that Labour wouldn't win. I do think a leadership election within both major parties would be preferable prior to a general election. Somebody needs a bloody mandate to do something. The Conservatives have basically said they do not want second referendum, so while they're in power this is unlikely. Labour have said they would keep all options on the table, including a second referendum, but it's unlikely that they would win an election, or be able to pass legislation to trigger a second referendum. The Green Party and Liberal Democrat Party both want a second referendum, but they more than likely will not achieve power, so it's going to be difficult. Overall, I don't think anybody can predict what will happen. The decision is in the hands of those 650 MP's that we elected to represent us.
