Yeah, the other video is the same exact audio but pitched, like, a semitone or two lower?

3 points in and ready for more

I think people are confused because both the album and the film feature live vocals (at least in some points if not all), but that doesn’t mean that the live vocals on the album are the same live vocals from the movie. They could be from different takes, or maybe Gaga and Bradley re-recorded live in a studio for the soundtrack. There’s definitely a difference between the film version of Shallow and the album version. Not auto tune tho

The entire trailer was either pitched down or slowed down in a way that modified the pitch.

It's different from autotuned but yes, it's the same music but pitched differently.

I don't think that's what's being talked about here.

OP might need to clarify in the main post. @xoxojohnwayne

They're talking about the trailer on iTunes being different from the trailer posted on YouTube. :) They're both the trailer version, pitched slightly differently.

It's sounding that way after hearing the first one because of the difference of a semitone. On its own (when it was literally all we had) we loved it. It's the YouTube version (the one on the right).

Nah, that's not what he's saying. He means that the trailer version sounds different across different platforms. He's not talking about the single/album version.

Ohhh interesting. I wonder why?  :oprah:

the one we had to begin with is actually the same as the left. I can't find the pitched down youtube one from the instagram post, it's definitely not the Warner Bros youtube trailer which I think is the first one we had

I have perfect pitch: the version on the right is indeed around a semitone lower, but it's definitely the same audio track tuned down.

Because I have nothing better to do, I double-checked with an online tone generator. The lowest note in the AHHHAAHHAHH run is 323 Hz in the version on the left (which is in the correct key, i.e. the one from the movie, streaming platforms, Enigma performance) and 313 Hz in the one on the left. Which could be the result of someone slowing down the trailer video by about 3% (to fit a 2:30 ad slot perhaps?) and not bothering to correct the pitch.

This is nothing new; I find that, for example, theme songs to American TV shows are often pitched slightly differently when broadcast in the UK.

since you have perfect pitch ... is the trailer version different from the radio edit? It sounds different to me but i cannot really put my finger on it. the drums have more resonance ? a longer pause between "watch as i dive in" and "i'll never meet the ground"

These versions are actually both slightly altered. The first one is the same as the actual song, but slightly pitch corrected and it has a more rock feel. We been knew this.

Now, the second one sounds like it’s been pitched lower, but it’s the same mix as the original trailer version.

So technically we have 3 mixes - the released song (live), the original trailer version (pitch corrected - more rockish), and now another trailer version which is the same as the original trailer version but pitched a bit lower? Hopefully that made sense lol.

I wish they’d release the trailer version. The build up and the final chorus has more oomph to it and sounds way better vocally :(

I thought the one in the trailer was just the studio version :oprah: Does that necessarily mean it's autotuned?
