according to these offended men, a high majority of brands that advertised 1930s-2000s should be cancelled bc more than likely they featured some sort of sexist/problematic/derogatory towards woman aspect in their promotion. God these people. This is such a wholesome ad. It's not attacking men AT ALL. It's helping men be better.

Some people really don't get the idea of socialization, do they? The worst interpretation of this ad (found on twitter): "it's saying that boys are innately bad and they must be taught to change those things"

Got it. But there are bisexual and gay men who can have toxic masculinity too right?! I’m asking because (I probably shouldn’t be saying this here) but I think I deal with some of these traits sometimes. And I consider myself to be bisexual. Mostly into men.

Yeah definitely. A lot of us internalize these beliefs seeing them around us. It's not a straight issue as much as it is a men issue. LGBTQ men are (imo) more likely to see it and to want to break away from it and that's because they are hurt because of it (being seen as "weaker" or less manly) and don't gain much. It's a system that benefits men but mostly straight men. Sometimes you will find gay men being misogynistic though. They're using as much of that male privilege as they can to feel better than someone, even if it's bad on their own.

I think a lot of gay men idealizie toxic masculinity even more so than heterosexual guys. In my opinion, the "ideal" man of mainstream gay media is just an amalgation of toxic masculine traits and there just loads of people who push and fight back against "non masc" gay men.

Just take one look through dating apps and you'll see that masculinity, being able to present as "straight", concealing your LGBT-ness, hating the "femme" association of being LGBT and having grotesquely bulbuous muscles is worn a badge of pride and honor.
