GG are not ASIB death wish...yet!

While still a winner for tonight´s award show, it I undeniable that ASIB lost big time as a film. The Golden Globes, however, have always been that shady award that you have to be careful with. Winners are decided by a small pool of less than 100 voters, who typically go for the more light-hearted and poppy film.
While indicative of the path a film might undergo in award season, ASIB chances are very much NOT set in stone based on tonight's gala...yet!

The GG winners are selected by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which as of 2009, only had 95 voters. The HFPA is seen as an exclusive club that only admits FIVE new members per year, and in most cases, ONLY one. This means a little over 100 members decided who won tonight, and with votes splitting, we are looking at literal groups of 20-30 maybe 40 people deciding who takes the trophy home. Also, lets not also forget that this is a press association. Every member has most likely only developed expertise in media, instead of actual filmmaking disciplines. Like some other members have said before, the only sure thing the GG is good at, is predicting nominations for bigger awards.

Does that mean that Gaga and Bradley will win best actress and actor at the Oscars? Not exactly. But can they? Yes!

While this loss can help us humble ourselves down a bit, I think we should keep calm and wait till the more “prestigious” acting awards take place, as that can indicate more the fate that ASIB will meet in regards to the big prize that is the Oscars.

In my opinion, it all comes down to the Critics Choice Awards, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG). Both of these are more serious acting awards than the golden globes, and the winners are more “well-selected”.

The Critics Choice Awards are presented by the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA). It is comprised of 250 members from television, film, radio and online critics.  It is the largest film critics organization in the United States and Canada.
Although still a very small voting pool, the BFCA voters are more well formed in filmmaking and might favor other films than the GG.
However, let's consider the CC like a higher quality GG, the real important one is the following:

The Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) are presented by the SAG-AFTRA, an American labor union representing approximately 160,000 film and television actors, journalists, radio personalities, recording artists, singers, voice actors, and other media professionals worldwide. This is a larger voting pool than the Oscar´s themselves.  Here the votes can go completely left field from those of the Golden Globes. This is the most important award show before the Oscars for Gaga and Bradley.

Having a more varied, large voting community will allow people to truly understand and cherish the beauties of not only ASIB but all other competing films. Actors will appreciate other actors work more than a press who only report and vote based on their subjective opinion. The actual experts that vote here will actually understand the true effort, complexity, and technicality of the nominees, giving the films different chances. If ASIB does decent or well at the SAG awards, it can very much do decent at the Oscars.

There is one more Award show that is just as important as the SAG awards, the BAFTA awards. The BAFTAS are the British equivalent of the Oscar.  Similarly to the Academy´s voting pool, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts is composed of approximately 6,500 members, all developed in acting, film, directing, music and other fields.  However, we do not know ASIB nominations for this award show as they have not been revealed yet. Likewise, these awards are also known to favor British Actors so Gaga and Bradley losing would not necessarily indicate anything bad.

Bottom line, while tonight's gala was somewhat underwhelming, we have to keep in mind that the people who pick the GG winners and those who pick the Oscar winners are a VERY different crowd. Let's try to stay positive and support the film in any way possible. It has already been such a successful part of Gaga and Bradley's careers that we should focus on being thankful for that rather than be disappointed in advance.

NO IT'S DEADDDDDD:huntyga:

We should lower our expections from now on. GG really bring Bohemian up and ASIB down in every category rn.

Bohemian won't win something but its chances in every category will rise for sure.

JUSTICE FOR ASIB

low expectations is something for sure. But unfortunately, this fan base doesn't know how to do that.

Bohemian Rhapsody is only nominated in 3 categories at the CC and none of them compete against ASIB except for Best Actor (which Rami will win)

Nominated for only 2 at the SAG awards (both compete against ASIB) but ASIB has 9 nominations so they can still win a lot

You think Gaga stills has a path to BA? Think again

I never thought she had tbh. But all im saying the movie will have a shot depending on how the remaining awards turn out. Remember votes might split as well between Glenn and Olivia too.

There was a reason why they wanted to start the best popular movie category

BR is not really an Oscar’s film, it’s more like a superheroes movie..

Well thankfully they didnt go through with that. GG are more likely to go the popular rout anyway. Oscars actually do the exact opposite.

Yeah BR was a phenomenal success, we can’t deny it, especially globally, there was even the sing-a-long version, so by popularity it’s really deserves a popular award, but not a serious like the Oscar’s, imo Roma will win the best picture..
