Stevie Nicks didn’t follow that instruction either and it destroyed her voice. Spoiler The massive amounts of cocaine in addition to the cigs didn’t help either. I feel like Adele loves to make music but isn’t someone who loves to perform and do those big shows. She has horrible stage fright which is probably compounded by anxiety over her vocal chords. She probably wants to preserve what she has so she is able to still make music. You never know which your vocal chord injury will be your last. You have complete control over your voice and a real understanding of its limits. You can see with Gagz, how she really alters her voice and pushes it but is always in control. Didn't she used to smoke a lot, though, and drink as well? And considering she's a bit younger than Gaga I would say the self-damage they've done from this is comparable. I mean, we barely see Gaga smoke so I have a feeling that in many cases she just does it for show and the feeling of doing it rather than being an active smoker.
