brucee 1,690
Maybe with Marry the Night as first single the attention could have been diverted from Born This Way's resemblance (or not) with Express Yourself ? hello hello baby.

That is a great point that I can’t believe I missed. The beginnings of the Gaga backlash start right from the release of Born This Way as the first single and it’s supposed similarities to Express Yourself. The lead should have been Marry the Night. And in fact it’s what Gaga wanted all along

Now we got a rush released 3rd single with a video that took 2 months to get out and it was only 1 set/ 1outfit/no story and people instead hated on gaga because of the Judas/btw backlash. The song was still huge but it could been on Poker face/bad romance level, i have never heard on person hating on the song That’s really Gaga’s fault though... she scrapped the big video last second and wanted to do something more personal/simple. It did peak in the top 10 here in America, it's a fan favorite, the video is amazing and she quickly rushed out Edge Of Glory right behind it. So while it put a slight dent into her string of monster hits, she came back from it. It wasn't a complete disaster. And Judas underperformed because radio didn't wanna play it It caused some backlash and it was surely a bad 2nd single choice but the GP recognizes the song and it's a classic 𝖓𝖊𝖜 𝖗𝖊𝖑𝖎𝖌𝖎𝖔𝖓

Regardless, we all love it and we are all that counts anyway. Haha The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw
ChromaticPrincess 1,346
I think it would’ve gone something like this 1. Born This Way #1 2. TEOG #1 3. You And I (US only) #6 4. Hair (#5) 5 Scheisse (#19) even with a heavy radio edit I still feel like the US radio in 2011 would never pick this up. 6. Heavy Metal Lover (#10) it would replace the MTN era and I think that she would’ve promoted the hell outta this song just like MTN. I also feel like US might’ve picked this song up which is why it’s top 10 but it would not last long on the BB100 bc the overexposure would start and people would be done with her 7. MTN (#19) So this is gonna seem kinda weird but I always envisioned this song being released in early 2012 for some reason but idk why. Anyway this gets released and doesn’t really do well. By now Radio is kinda over her and so is the gp. It still gets a cool mv tho. Okay after this all o the songs flop so it doesn’t really matter but 8/9. BJAF/FOHL I like to think that she’s released these two randomly like 2-3 weeks before going on tour too like kinda hype people up. Also they’d get killed mv’s so basically after MTN she doesn’t get a hit she just releases songs so they can get mv’s ✨oh the lights dim while we’re dancing yeah the floor is shaking in this disco heaven✨
LOVEDRUG 10,674
I would have 1 - Born This Way (#1) - February 2011 2 - The Edge Of Glory (#1) - Late March 2011 ALBUM RELEASE (APRIL 2011) 3 - You and I (#5) - May 2011 4 - Marry the Night (#12) - August 2011 5 - Judas (#22) - November 2011 6 - Scheisse (#10) - January 2012 7 - Hair (#3) - April 2012 DELUXE EDITION RELEASE (MAY 2012) 8 - Black Jesus + Amen Fashion (#30) - May 2012 - I honestly think with a little less promo during album release, BTW could've been so much more successful, the public really were over-exposed to her and songs like Hair and You and I could help to break up the pop hits. I think Hair would be the last hurrah for BTW in mid-early 2012 with the final single (BJ+AF) making little impact. The problem is, Judas was forced upon people, with the world getting only pop hits since 2008, a song like Hair and You and I would introduce genre diversity. Dominic 11,922
People overhype the Judas backlash. No one cares about the religious stuff in the UK really. It was a bop. BTW > TEOG > GH Just those 3 would have been perfect imo. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it
TEANUS 15,075
Gaga wanted the first four to be: 1. Marry The Night 2. Born This Way 3. Scheiße 4. The Edge of Glory So I feel she would’ve followed with Hair, Judas, Heavy Metal Lover, and idk what else British social ladies with upturned pinkies, glasses clinking // xoxoTEANUS
