It's one of her finest singles honestly. You can even argue it started a bit of trend. (Taylor Swift's Style and Ariana Grande's Love Me Harder, etc.)

Yes. It hasn't really aged well considering the circumstances. But you better believe she had even the hetero's shook with that song in 2013. It could have been one of her biggest hits ever had she promoted it more. But as we now know, maybe it's best she let it fade from public consciousness.

the fact that it peaked at #3 on the Canadian Hot 100 without ever having a video speaks volume :air:

True Confession of a Fairly New Stan: I didn't know there was a solo version until tonight. I love it. :firega:

It's probably her most complete song in terms of vocals, lyrics, musicality, beat, and uniqueness. If ANYBODY other than R Kelly sang with her? It would have been one of her biggest hits.

It is one of her best songs and it should have been a massive hit.

R. Kelly is a disgrace though and she should have never worked with him. Another male artist could have done his part without the controversy and problematic stuff.

Yes. I actually listen to the R. Kelly version, I don't like the Xtina version that much + DWUW was meant to be one of her biggest hits, it had the potential to reach top 5 or even #1 on the hot 100 but I'm glad she scrapped the MV.  I remember that even straight people knew that song back in 2013/2014 lol

Agreed, I heard Style WAY before I ever even heard DWUW, which was like FOUR years after it was released :ladyhaha:

Well anyway, then I'm going through my Taylor kick and listened to Style a little while ago and noticed it had a very similar bass line, I like it :3

Battle 4 Ur Life

It's f* brilliant. Her vocals are heaven-like, the instrumental is a masterpiece. it's literally art.

and it screams hit. (I remember it was a big deal on itunes when it came out). If you play it at a party the dance-floor will CROWD FAST. It's THAT BOP. and it's a track that most pop fans or music fans in general will know. they will recognize it from "somewhere" or even hum some of the lyrics. it was in an ad for best buy. come on. It could have been #1 on the Hot 100 as it would be, at worst case scenario, Top 10 for sure.

HAD. A. VIDEO. COME. OUT. aka had it not been such a disaster on how it was shot and managed. and HAD IT NOT FEATURED R KELLY AND TERRY.

if it had been a solo version or even Xtina's (even better) and she had featured on the video directed by I don't know, anybody...we would have another hundred million viewed track and like I said, most likely a #1 or Top 5 or 10.

but not.

do I like it? the song itself and the music production? yes! masterpiece, brilliant and iconic! the promo and management for the track? tragic and #fail.

“Fantastic, chic, freak, slay.”
