2School4Cool 6,453 Posted January 3, 2019 Share Posted January 3, 2019 I haven’t been on GGD for too long so maybe this has been done before, but I personally haven’t seen any discussion of Gaga’s lyrical skills in my time here. We all know she can sing her heart out and put on a great show, but I’ve yet to see anyone talk about what a great lyricist she is. I got to thinking about some of my favorites, and there are too many to list. A few of my favorites are: ”Another shot before we kiss the other side, I’m on the edge of something final we call life tonight.” ”The melody that you choose can rescue you.” ”Prom girl wipes her tears with silver lines.” ”You popped my heart seems, all my bubble dreams.” ”We are not just art for Michelangello to carve.” ”Like Dorothy on a yellow brick, hope my rubie shoes get us there quick.” ”If I knew it would be the last time, I would have broke my heart in two and tried to save the part of you.” The list goes on... So my question is what are some are of your favorites? Believe me, you aren’t then only one who’s misheard lyrics, I know I’ve had my fair share of them as well. Some lyrics I haven’t understood until years after she released them, she’s a very metaphoric songwriter and some lyrics can be up to interpretation. As for the ones you quoted from me: ”Another shot before we kiss the other side, I’m on the edge of something final we call life” - she wrote this song as her grandfather was about to pass away. She is saying let’s take a shot before he passes, let’s celebrate his life while he lives his final moments, or let’s make a toast for his life. She continues to say “put on your shades because I’ll be dancing in the flames. It isnt hell if everybody knows my name.” This is up to interpretation, but I think of this lyric as “I may be going to heaven or hell, but if my loved ones are in hell with me, it’s not really bad” ”Prom girl wipes her tears with silver lines” - she uses the common phrase of someone looking for a silver lining, or a positive thing that may still come from a negative situation. She “wipes her tears” with the silver lining meaning she comforts herself and tries to make herself happier by thinking of some positive outcome. ”You popped my heart seams, all my bubble dreams” - this is pretty much her creative way of comparing him letting her down to her heart breaking, or a bubble bursting.
