Seriously I just think they released it at the right time, it sounds more like a Spring hit

I think you meant to say 'didn't release it at the right time'? Funny cause Mark and Miley keep saying how they did it at exactly the right time, and any earlier or later would've been less 'right'.

When Hanah Montana first went solo as Miley Cyrus, the gp really didn't give a ****.  She had a couple hits in the US as Miley but the gp didn't really latch on to her.

So she (and/or her label) decided to go this gimmicky Bangerz era route.  She wasn't out there showing her talents or versatility as an artist - she was out there acting like trash a hot mess.  The VMAs, the tongue thing, the trashy try-hard Terry Richardson shoots etc all had the gp's attention.  Seems what she failed to realize is the gp wasn't as interested in her music as much as they were interested in her antics.  Her antics are what drove the gp to buy her music.

She threw away most of the antics for Younger Now wanting to put the music in the forefront and it flopped.  Surprise surprise she's now tryna recapture that Bangerz era with this new album she's creating.

Unfortunately for her, the gp now looks back at her Bangerz gimmicks as a joke... a joke no one finds funny anymore.

Thankfully while the world was watching Gaga's antics during The Fame, she was also showing them her talent and sophistication.  When they grew tired of her antics, it was much easier for Gaga to remain on the map.  She had a backbone and a backup plan.

You said it perfectly.

With Gaga there was a method to the madness. Behind the whackiness was an important message. But with Miley it now (years later) seems so cheap and contrived. Pure ego and vanity.

I don't think Miley is trying to recreate the Bangerz gimmicks, there's nothing controversial about Nothing Breaks Like A Heart, she actually looks beautiful and looks like a regular pop star doing pop music, in a way that is more appealing.

And I think Gaga's early days were never just made for the sake of controversy, but for theatricality. The Monster Ball Tour and Born This Way Ball Tour were like movies to watch, they were controversial, but at least it looked good and non-comedic. Miley leaned towards offensive and comedic aesthetics.

NBLAH is more Mark's song than Miley's and I don't think it's connected to her new project... right?

It is mainly a Ronson song, but I feel like Miley would eventually include it as part of her album.

Besides, NBLAH already took away the 'lead single momentum and anticipation', so I'm not sure if she's doing another 'lead single' strategy from herself later.

Exactly.

I agree.  I think she should've laid low until her new project was ready.

NBLAH is actually doing really well in the UK after her performances, it’s still #3 on iTunes after release and was #1 on there for at least a couple days. It’s peak is also #4 on the UK charts (much higher than PI).

The UK is usually (but not always) an indication of how the US will receive the song, but unfortunately when promo ended in the UK and started in the US, the Christmas season had arrived which has made the song considerably harder to break through. However NBLAH is always in one of the top 4 gainers for Pop Radio and the song is still climbing massively on Billboard (+17 places this week). Although it didn’t have as good of a head start as PI, songs that are a slow climber to the top usually last longer than those who get that initial peak then drop off.

Personally, the song is really good and everyone I’ve spoken to in the UK all loves it - usually Mums as well. I think it’ll be a grower in the US!

But it is successful. Already outpeaking Shallow on radio and gaining more and more.

I think it might be a slow hit. Might not. But it's definitely at least successful.

Big reason is that promotion works very differently now. Songs are no longer exposed to the public mainly through music videos, live performances, and interviews. Dominating the charts now is about instagram, having a good personality, appearing in the tabloids, promoting music on platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify. miley and mark have great artistry and great performances but they are just promoting the song in a way that no longer determines its success.

As someone who used to stan Miley (still a fan) it's not that great. It's good, and harmless, but there's nothing about it that makes me want to listen to it again. After Younger Now, Miley needed something that would grab peoples attention, and this was not it.

I feel like no one besides pop stans gives a flying **** about Miley  anymore

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

I actually think the Bangerz audience was more of the GP.

Miley does have fans, but she still relies heavily on the GP to gain success.

Her fans have grown up though. And they really, really want to put their awkward tongue-waving past behind them :laughga:
