But let's not erase the decades of fighting that LGBTQ activists (Particularly trans women of color) did to make sure that they could have their platforms. The key thing about this conversation is that we are AWARE that it's not okay. It was literally normal and popular to do the durrdadurr thing Carlos Mencia started (LOOKING BACK, WHAT THE ****). As long as the person has since either apologized or genuinely taken action towards changing THAT is what matters. Punish continued abusers, belittlers and bigots. It's not okay, it never will be okay but times have REALLY changed. Confronting people with their words does. There is a reason why we are still bringing up events from 100 years ago and judge them, because people STILL didn't learn. If people would get over themselves and their thinking that what they feel is what everyone else should think, they wouldnt have these problems.
