Not hard to be the first one when you've been around since the dinosaurs.

Have a bit more respect for the current Queen of Pop, Gaga will take her place, but the current queen is still alive and well :classy:

We need DarkGa with Bops so we can rule the industry again and learn the other popgirls how to snatch 'em wigs to ultimate baldness!!

Come on, everyone, surely you must be aware of the term "sex positive"? It's been a textbook feminist term for years!

Admittedly, I didn't know that these photographs weren't actually from men's magazine shoots originally, I assumed she did pose for these publications but to know now that they were for life drawing and art classes and sold on to these magazines without her permission? That is really scummy and those responsible should be ashamed. But as much as I appreciate that Madonna was proud of her sexuality and not afraid to say it, I think her ways of dealing with sex haven't always been the best. She's tended to show her sexuality through the male gaze aesthetic and was all about giving men visually pleasing images. Not to mention, she did full-on p*rnographic shoots that couldn't be placed in the "artistic" category. They weren't meant to be an artistic depiction of the human body, it was nothing but sexual titillation and vulgarity. And she seemed to think this was groundbreaking or something. It's like, hello, p*rn already existed, what she did was no different or better than that. And she's been sexualising women in her videos for years (really thought she'd have more of a backlash for those Asian girls with nipple pasties making out in a bath in the Bitch I'm Madonna video). To me, a sex positive woman should be showing her sexuality in a way that's classier, is more in line with what women find sexy and only sexualises herself but no one else around her.

Madonna may have opened the doors for women expressing sexuality but she sure as hell wasn't the best or most ethical at doing it.

She did a lot during her early days to get by. She posed nude for studios and art classes to pay her rent. She had a part in a student film called "A Certain Sacrifice" before she was famous. When she began to become a name, they sold the photos to both Playboy and Penthouse to capitalize and profit off of her as well as the maker of the student film to which she tried to buy out and block the release.

I think the A Certain Sacrifice thing was a real shame for her, it was clearly something she thought would never see the light of day. To think she was only paid $100 for it and wrote a 3 page letter to get even that! Movies like that are so hard to track down, especially back then, so it shows how much people wanted a piece of her. But I didn't know her old photos got circulated without her permission. It really shows the depths reporters will go to and why a woman's body can never truly feel like her own at times.

As a dinosaur, I remember when this happened and it was big news. Her management freaked out like her career could be over. She had not been around long.

But she said no...she said SHE would be in control of this. It was going to come out anyway but she embraced it and said she posed for money and for art and she wasnt ashamed for it!

She kept her power and that's always inspired me.

It's a terrible movie. I own it just to have it. Honestly, I dont feel she even cared at that point because while it was released it didnt harm her image at all.

I think she signed a form that pretty much allowed the photos to be used without her consent when she posed for them. If she hadn't become the star she was, I doubt they would have ever seen the light of day. They later sold them pretty much making money off of her and her response to it I truly admire.

She's a queen and her legacy will live forever. The pop world literally cannot be understood without her and every single female artist after Madonna has been influenced by her. I know that a lot of people don't like her and that's fine, but even Gaga likes her and has referenced her a whole lot of times in her art, like it or not. The picture is BEAUTIFUL and her attitude towards that mess (being the biggest star in the wold during the 80s while her nude pics being everywhere without her consent) was truly inspiring and is one of her most brilliant qualities that made her the queen of pop: total lack of shame.

(And of course that doesn't mean that Madonna is "better" or whatever, it only means that she's one of the best pop artists of all time, like The Beatles, Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, Prince, etc., and in no particular order, actually).

Thank your for sharing the picture, I had no idea what pop artists are posting on social media. This forum is basically my pop Bible.

Sex Positive is definitely a big term used, but she shouldn't be called a "girl" in the same sentence as talking about sex. That's the only weird thing that I feel.
