I've never seen the physical album with this cover tho.. where was it released?

Originally the blonde cover of The Fame Monsterwas to be the standard version and the brunette cover was to be the deluxe edition, however, it was reversed, and the blonde cover is now the deluxe edition, while the brunette cover is the standard stand-alone version. In most non-US markets, the covers are mixed, so one can have the standard edition with the blonde cover or the deluxe edition with the brunette cover.

It’s for the TFM only and the digipack from the website.

The Fame Monster

The Fame Monster and Joanne album covers are my favorite ones!!! I love the simplicity of them.

Do you have conversations like that with your label?
I used to. On the last album they wanted... (Drifts off) I still have them with my manager, but not with my label. The label didn’t want me to use the ‘crying’ cover with the black hair for ‘The Fame Monster’. I chose two covers, both shot by Hedi Slimane, and put the one I wanted on the Deluxe version. Which was over-ordered and sold like crazy. They’d say to me, ‘it’s not beautiful’, and I’d say ‘yes it is’, they’d say, ‘it looks scary’, I’d say, ‘the last thing anyone needs is another ****ing beautiful woman in a bikini rolling around on the foot next to a palm tree’. Oh, maybe I shouldn’t have said that... I don’t want to be rude. The album wasn’t about being beautiful, it was about being afraid of things, so I thought the photo was better related to the music. Back then we were still at a point with the label where relating album art to music meant nothing to them. We’re now in a different place.

I prefer the blonde cover just because I think it is more original, especially with the wig. We see a few people do the running blood or running makeup look or whatever

Excuse me no :koons: from Rollingstone

They were like, “It’s confusing, it’s too dark, you look gothic, it’s not pop,” and I said, “You don’t know what pop is, because everyone was telling me I wasn’t pop last year, and now look — so don’t tell me what pop is, I know what pop is.” It’s funny, because I fought and fought and fought, and I actually ended up having two covers, because I wanted to do this yin and yang presentation with the covers.

Also shout out to Gagadaily :poot:

When I go to see what my fans are saying, I go onto GagaDaily — they see the cover and say, “I don’t really like the blonde one, but the brown one is ****ing sick.” They love it, and I know what they love, so I make it for them, I don’t care what anybody else wants.

Exactly this! By being so un-Gaga and unconventional even by the standards she herself had set by that point, it was in fact being completely Gaga. Truly unconventional. That’s what I love about this one in particular: she really dug deep and said, “this gothic insect thing, this is Gaga.” because while I find ARTPOP funny as hell, when she says that it can mean N E THING this is what she means. Gaga is an “enigma” by any and all standards and that’s what she aims to do.

But not in pop music and not then. Now a little more in pop but even still not as dramatic and gothic as she did it here.

TFM isn't stripped down, and the brunette cover feels too simple almost. Plus, that wig is so clearly...a bad wig...that it feels very not-Gaga.

I just always thought the blonde cover was SO SO SO much more iconic and unique. The angular bob, the vinyl jacket, the dark/light aspect. Plus, it conveys the sound of the album much more. Like this cover LOOKS like Bad Romance, DITD, Monster, etc.

It's superior imo.
