These guys sit in their homes during election time. And then when the democratically elected president enacts his agenda they protest. Why not vote?

This is what happens when you don't vote. Your voice doesn't get heard as far as policy is concerned. Macron made it clear during his campaign that he'd do this. And he won with 63%.

If they didn't like it, they should've gone out and voted for other candidates.

How do you know it's not the same guys who voted against Macron who are now protesting against this law?

Millions of french people didn't vote for him and we're FAR to have millions of french folks protesting now so that's highly possible that many non-macron voters are among protesters.

Yeah some dummies attacked one monument the other day. They weren't even wearing the "gilet jaunes" that every protester wear to make it clear why they're there for.

Those idiots attacked our culture and filmed themselves to post it on snapchat etc... They basically just liked to create chaos by breaking everything and wanted their 15 minutes of fame but didn't gaf about the law. -_-  -_-

French knows how to protest.. if we did a little bit of that maybe things would be better in our countries..

As a parisian I can tell you that it's chaos out here, and all of that for some taxes, and bcs they want "more money". We all want more money, and every country never break things like an entitled cry baby bcs the government is "supposed" to pay their rent. How about you figure out a way to make more money? I find it more pathetic than anything else, ud never find them demonstrate like this for global warming

Well if you're forced to use your car a lot that's "some taxes" on each liter of oil that gonna cost you way more than "some" money at the end of the month. :/

Not everybody lives in a big city where you can often use buses, underground, tramways etc. Some folks don't have the choice and have to use their car a lot, that's why spending more on oils can be so difficult for them.

Also some folks are already in difficult financial situations so any additional taxes after the rise of TVA, electricity cost, CSG tax ( and so on and on ) the oil taxes is one more straw for them and a big one for many of them.
Apparently they abandoned the idea of taxing folks to enter big cities so I guess we should be happy lmao. :D

They don't want someone to "pay their rents" they want the taxes rise to stop so they can live decently... Why do you insult people you didn't try to understand and whose situations you didn't try to know? :/

Indeed but when you can't live decently because of the taxes adding and adding that's not capricious anymore to want the taxes rise to stop, it's a necessity.

Well many of them already run after every jobs (even the hardest ones) they can find and still can't make the end meets at the end of the month.
"Travailleurs pauvres/ working poor folks" exist in France. Except for the people who just came to break everything, they're not pathetic.

I also wish more people would care for global warming but it doesn't make their protest unjustified ( not counting the ones there to break as protesters) .
There is way more efficient ways to fight global warming than this law the government is pushing for now that gonna, on top of that, gonna harm purchasing power therefore domestic consumption which is bad for our, already weak, growth. :/

You sound like the president when he said "walk to the other side of the street and im sure you will find a job", that's a total lake of reality, and it's denigrating people who actually work hard or try hard to find work, or the students who try their best to find something, a job, an alternance or a trainship.. (ofc everybody is not that involved in finding a situation but there its not a majority of this people who are manifesting). The thing is that its the result of an accumulation, french people are angry or unsatisfied since a long time, and we have a president who dont take the population seriously and have no consideration (i dont try to justify their act at all ). And today this new taxes is just the point of "its too much to handle", but in reality this manifestation is more the middle/poor class who have enough of the richs class and the differences between both. They call him "president of riches" for nothing, it have a disconnection between the upper class and the middle one, and a huge problem of communication and now its the result of an anger, everybody from the middle class have a reason to manifest against the gouvernement thats why this manifestation is so big and out if control, cause this time its not just a political partie against something or a little community, it touches everyone.

The problem is not Macron ! The problem is every presidents of the past 20 years who never dared to reform the country because it is unpopular and they wanted to be reelected.

Our French social system (as amazing as it is) is on the verge of collapsing because nothing has been done for YEARS. French economy and demography isn't the same as 30 years ago, why should our social system stay the same when we don't have enough ressources to maintain it ?!

If anything, Macron is actually brave for taking all the measures that should have been taken loooong ago and that our country is needing to maintain a good social system that will last in the future. He'll be the most hated President of the 5th Republic for taking very unpopular measures but I believe he's making ecessary changes. As a citizen it's a lot to take at once but we cannot wait 10 more years or France will sink.

I think these riots could be prevented in the near future if they start subsidizing clean energy and cars running on alternative energy sources. It's already happening in the Netherlands, the goal is that by 2025 the only cars sold are electric cars.

Also France needs to invest in newer atomic energy sources, if France invested in clean Thorium reactors, this crisis would be  be resolved (mostly or intirely)

They should be pacific. Violence just make things worse (for both sides police - "gilets jaunes")

They shouldn't prevent people from going to work, hospital, friends... They should protest in front of officials buildings, towns halls, governmental buildings etc. It may be some rumors but I heard animals died because their owners couldn't go to the vet because the "gilet jaunes" did not let them pass...

They should have respect for the others. It's not because someone isn't protesting that you have to beat her/him or break his/her car... Maybe some agree to the cause but just can't make it that day or something else

Yeah no governments do a serious plan to fix those issues on the long term yet they all want even the poorer french citizen to pay for their solutions when they arrive in office...

And it's always done by the mean of new taxes ( adding to the numerous taxes already existing in France) that funds partial solutions which don't really bring the actual solutions: RENEWABLE ENERGIES.

No wonder why folks are exhausted lol.

Yeah folks should avoid violence at all cost. The thing is most of these violences are not sourced. :/

Folks assume it's the gilet jaunes not being pacifists cause it's done during their strikes and around the places they invest but it could be looters/"casseurs" and all the extremist groups ( "black blocks", anarchists, far-right groups etc) enjoying the massive crowds to act this way.

So far the police seem to struggle to do its job by stopping them all despite all the arrests. If we didn't have so many cops jobs suppressed years ago maybe it would be handled in a better way. :/

seems like a stupid climate change policy to tax citizens for oil ... that won't make people use less oil. They'll just be poorer. People are required to drive. It's not a choice lmao. If that's really the extent of this protest then...you go guys. The rich who benefit from fossil fuels should be taxed more. carbon emissions by oil/gas companies should be taxed. cleaner consumer level cars and devices should be incentivized through tax breaks, but you can't punish people for being too poor to afford an electric car. lord.

Well that I can tell you that I struggled to find a 6 month internship and alternance even more. No job here, very hard to get one, vicious circle where u dont have enough experience, but to have experience someone has to be willing to hire you. I am not rich by any means, in fact I'm from a poor suburb of Paris, my parents always been cleaning lady or factory worker all their lives, never complained, never destroyed l'Arc de Triomphe. I'm not condemning anger, everyone should be allowed to be angry, I just find it pathetic to take it to THIS extreme for taxes and money. I do think there is always a way to improve your own life, and that the government can be an added PLUS. I agree that globally presidents don't know **** about what poor people have to go through but there is also a pattern of french people expecting everything to come out of the government. Every single thing in their lives can be improved by the government and never themselves, there has to be some part of responsibility. It's just my opinion and how I see it, nobody has to agree with me
