I will not say that I support violence or that I wont, but what I'm gonna a say (and not trying to start another debate here, just to present the fact) as a Catalan I can assure peaceful protests are very beautiful but they change nothing :poot:

So if the French people want something, they have the right to do as much as they can to get it.

That taxe rise on oil cancelled is just a detail.

I completely agree that this just ONE of many taxes that make millions of folks struggle! It's not the only one that make many people struggle but for the millions of folks who have to use their car a lot it would have been a hell of an ultimate straw.

Refineries has been blocked since the first weekend :laughga: It has nothing to do with that

I checked and yep it had been done before as you said but it clearly amplified recently and that's why I thought it only started recently since the "real blockage" and the real risk of oil shortage happened recently lmao. :D

My point was that when there's an oil shortage big risk they react basically. :/ Weeks of protest and when gas stations with stock of oil became harder to find ( very recently ) they reacted.

Miracle

I support the Gilet Jaunes and everything they effectively do to fight for their class rights, including violence against the government.

Honestly we don't even know the part of "gilet jaunes" who did violent stuffs since so many far-right groups, anarchist groups, "hooligan-like" guys who just come to every strike for the sake of breaking everything went among them at these protest...

Maybe the gilet jaunes did a small part of the violence yet they get a violent image because of all the troubles made among their walks... It's hard to determine. :/

Wait, they want to leave EU? First Britain and now France.. Gosh, this reminds me a lot of the time period before WW2. Maybe we are getting closer and closer to WW3.

In the US, for example, modern society conveniently forgets destruction of private property as useful.  Boston Tea Party, anyone? Even the Keystone Pipeline protests were peaceful and well-articulated/executed but the US used force on its own citizens executing their right.  We gotta resist and take back the public spaces. Money and private property are social constructions anyway.

There's a HUGE double-standard in the U.S. when it comes to protests. If you're a minority group or a liberal, you're a violent thug or a triggered snowflake. But if you're a conservative, you're a good American patriot.

I mean, just read about the Bundy Standoff. A bunch of white rednecks were wielding weapons against government agents. Not only were they acquitted, but no one was harmed. Meanwhile, driving while black is something that can get you shot here.  :saladga:

These protest are not about leaving the EU, it's about the purchasing power of french people.

Sorry I don't get how folks wanting to leave the EU ( if it was the reason for these protests ) would be like folks before WW2?

Chapter 9: Frexit

Before WW2 nationalism and many extremism political parties were popular on the EU. There was competition between European countries and there was belief that your own country's people were the best or deserved the best (or something like that). USA also included higher takes to it's products just before the WW2 started. The similar signs are seen today, as more and more European countries civils wan't to leave EU and thing about their own best. USA just added higher taxes to it's products and the fight to stop immigration and close the borders is becoming more and more common across the globe. UN is also losing it's power, more and more people are suffering around the globe, Middle-East has became a playground to the Western Countries, China and USA are becoming more competitive and Islamphobia is starting to grow, just to name a few. Let's not also forget North Korea and the shortage of clean fresh water that will be leaders and counties future concern topics.

This chart was done by 400 "sympathizers Gilet jaunes" out of the nearly 300 000 gilet jaunes who were protesting at the peak of it. It's not spoke-persons send by the movement but just a tiny part of the gilet jaunes suggesting reforms like any of them can feel free to do but they don't speak for all the gilets jaunes. ;)

Also around 25% of french people wanted to leave the EU before these protests so it's not surprising to find a part of the protesters not liking the EU since it's a movement that attracted people of different political sides.

I get all your comparison points but one: People wanting to leave the EU are not necessarily nationalists ( whatever the definition we use for nationalism since it's used differently by different persons) and many don't support extreme parties as well as not believing in a superiority of them. They're always summed up like that but many aren't. :/
