A Shame things have to get to this point. I don't condone this behavior and I wish peaceful protests would draw as much attention but sadly that's not the world we live in. My thoughts go out to the people affected.

The sad truth is that if people don't strongly protest (which does NOT mean with violence lets be clear) they are nearly never listened to indeed... :/

Sadly these huge popular movements ALWAYS have to deal with some non-militant, violents hooligan-like groups coming in and doing bad stuffs because they know they'll be hard to catch in huge crowds. :/ More police is needed there to stop them from making these walks violent when all people who came there to protest just want to defend their right.

I don't think violence is the key. Tbh the whole governmental & societal system in France has to change. The centralisation doesn't work, the democraty should be different... Not saying that Switzerland is better or something like that but I think they have a great system.

I wish it wasn't but actually... In some cases it's the only thing that can make a difference and History did prove it a few times. :/

That being said blocking places or these types of strong protest could be enough imo so I wish the extremist groups who don't care about the law and just came to destroy everything would be evacuated from there by the police.

Yep there's a lot to change lol! ;)

Yes because committing theft, starting fires, and defacing other people’s property is the answer to our problems... Sis no, don’t be delusional :saladga:

Protesters weren't the ones doing that. It's mainly criminals who seize the opportunity of unrest and chaos to committ crimes. Pretty common during protests.

Burning and looting other people’s property isn’t right imo.

When we do this in the US our police state/millitary like police forces come out and attack citizens.

If this happened in the U.S you can bet U.S police would open fire lol... They won't keep up with this **** lol

While I agree people have the right to protest. I just don't condone these protests since they are protesting measures that will help curb the climate change menace.

You realize they're protesting against measures the government took to fight climate change?

I was in between the riots, I did not exactly count for these riots to happen while doing some shopping for Christmas. It was wild were I was (near Lafayette), but it was waaaaaay wilder at the Champs d'Elyssee and the Arc De Triomphe.

Actually they protest against the fact they're the ones being asked to pay for the fight against climate change even if they're broke. They're not against making diesel unattractive in term of price to make sure folks will stop using it since it's worst than other oils. They simply want to be helped if the price get bigger since it's putting them down financially or they want the government to invest massively in cleaner cars not using any oil which would be way better for the planet and also not make them struggle more financially.

That's the ugly  truth no one like to hear... Folks try to do peaceful revolution and when they're ignored the huge majority stay calm while some get mad and eventually are the ones who make the change arrive.

I would never be violent myself but sadly I think it's maybe the only thing that can make Macron back down and that's a thought I hate to have. :/

The problem is not Macron ! The problem is every presidents of the past 20 years who never dared to reform the country because it is unpopular and they wanted to be reelected.

Our French social system (as amazing as it is) is on the verge of collapsing because nothing has been done for YEARS. French economy and demography isn't the same as 30 years ago, why should our social system stay the same when we don't have enough ressources to maintain it ?!

If anything, Macron is actually brave for taking all the measures that should have been taken loooong ago and that our country is needing to maintain a good social system that will last in the future. He'll be the most hated President of the 5th Republic for taking very unpopular measures but I believe he's making ecessary changes. As a citizen it's a lot to take at once but we cannot wait 10 more years or France will sink.

These guys sit in their homes during election time. And then when the democratically elected president enacts his agenda they protest. Why not vote?

This is what happens when you don't vote. Your voice doesn't get heard as far as policy is concerned. Macron made it clear during his campaign that he'd do this. And he won with 63%.

If they didn't like it, they should've gone out and voted for other candidates.

To me that's the thing they keep repeating to make folks accept it when they see their CSG tax rising ( even for the ones who are not even part of the middle class by the way ) while the taxes on the big fortunes ( ISF ) was suppressed right after Macron arrived pretty much.

They tell you they have to do many cuts etc then they do this ISF reform that made the country lost several billions proving they don't have the absolute need to save EVERY penny as they always try to present it in medias.

I talked about the CSG tax as an example but it's one among many other taxes that either gonna get bigger or were/ will be created and often it even concerns the super-broke folks like the rise of electricity price, oil now and so on that was following the rise of the taxe on nearly everything we buy ( TVA ) that was backed up by Macron at the time he wasn't president.
It's really a damn lot for folks who were already finishing the month with 0 euro or " -  ... euros" on their bank account before all that.

Well, the social system we have is often wasting money with acts that aren't that efficient or needed like with the useless surgeries, scans etc or the refund of drugs proved to be barely efficient....30% of the "assurance-maladie" spending were deemed useless for example... :/
If it was better managed, a lot of money would already be saved to then maintain the social system without even finding new budgets with cuts, reduction of assistance etc.

Also there's economist listing propositions reforms of the national spending not linked to the social system that would literally save tens of billions. I don't even start on the approximate 80 billions lost to tax evasion just in France and France doesn't seem to follow tax evaders very hard compared to certain countries. Not even something like Obama's Ex Patriot Act.

Making some oils more expensive "for ecology purpose" but also as a way to get some money for the country when there are A TON of other things he could have done before wasn't the best way to get more budgets for the country imo. No surprise why many folks don't like his actions.
