Aura: Just heavily samples the Infected Mushroom instrumental and has a few Zedd sounds added
Venus: Audio samples from Zombie Zombie used, and stems from an unreleased Madeon song
Mary Jane Holland: Just used a beat from Madeon's catalog that happened to be used by a different artist but never officially released
Donatella: Just used a beat from Zedd's catalog that happened to be used by a different artist but never officially released, but was performed

So basically:

Aura: Heavily samples song by Infected Mushroom
Venus: Using stems from an unreleased song by Madeon and just samples sounds from Zombie Zombie (Which isn't anything new cause A LOT of songs sample other songs)
Mary Jane Holland: Instrumental from producer's catalog
Donatella: Instrumental from producer's catalog

That's all

I think in some Born This Way era Gagavision she spoke about how important it was to "honor your vomit," meaning it's important for an artist to honor whatever happens during the initial creative process. I'm not sure she ever really does that, but it's solid advice.

I think *sometimes* she does and other times there’s other factors involved like the label. I mean, we know with ARTPOP that the label gave her feedback to change some stuff. However, there’s also Venus which she did so last minute that the thing itself is just this glorious pop vomit of hooks hahaha

No, this is not "Illusion". This might be a second or third demo for Perfect Illusion after it was brought and rewritten by Gaga, as she said she renamed it "Perfect Illusion" (in fact the song was called Savage Illusion or something like that for some time lmao)

(P.S.: Does anyone have a remix with a vibe similar to this?)

She also said he came with an idea. Specifically that. An idea. Not an entire demo lol You can see in the lyricism that she wrote this song and that it wasn’t a cover of sorts (like Come to Mama which is nothing like her lyrics and very much like FJM)

I agree with you about everything, except about it being the best lead choice. It was literally the worst lead single choice in the history of single choices, maybe ever:ladyhaha:

MR or DH wouldn't have been smashes, but would've been received much better critically, and would've gone down better with her new C2C older/adult contemporary audience. Joanne would've been a much better introduction to the theme of the album. If she wanted a trendy pop bop, DIC fits the bill (possibly JW too). If she wanted a quirkier bop that shows off the album's country tinge, A-Yo would've been perfect (IMO this should've been the lead).

After the GP got sick of Gaga's "too much-ness" with ARTPOP, and were begging for something simpler, PI just seems like the most obvious song not to use as the lead...

Nah, I think only Million Reasons or Joanne had a chance to be a decent lead single. Fans want to believe Dancin' In Circles would've been the best one because it's the only "bop" they can dance to. Diamond Heart is a good song as well but very meh in my opinion. A-Yo would've made fans flip out at first because of the country sound.

I just feel like the album wasn't really made with the intention of having a smash hit but rather just Gaga's personal diary being shown to the world and the fans. Million Reasons did well the next week only because of the Superbowl, otherwise she'd have moved on really fast.

Yeah that was what I was trying to say. If they weren't going to have a big smash hit either way, why not choose a song that would be a bigger hit with the critics, or just a song that represents the album's sound/themes better?

At this point it doesn't matter anyway though lol, what happened happened;)

Actually, many songs on ARTPOP are "covers", too:

• Aura: from Infected Mushrooms

• Venus: from Zombie Zombie

• Mary Jane Holland: from Can't Beat The Machines (The Good Natured)

• Donatella: from Karma Bitch (Anjulie)

etc.

How are they covers when only the instrumental is kept and the vocal melody couldn't be more different?

Ok so...

Til It Happens To You was 95% written by Diane

Come to Mama was 95% written by Father Misty Thing

and now Perfect Illusion was first written by Kevin/Tame Impala? :/

For TIHTY the only proof that it wasn't written by Gaga is what that lady said.

Bad Romance, Perfect Ilussion and Come To Mama are Gaga's only songs where she isn't credited as the main writer in her solo discography apart from the covers.
