Judy Garland never acknowledged the LGBT community in a positive way, let alone did something "big" for the LGBT community, yet she is universally regarded as the defining gay icon. The same can be said about other modern singers like Kylie, Dolly, Christina, and Cher. It can be hard to pin point what makes someone a gay icon, but more often than not it is just an unspeakable connection. So, even if you set aside Pink's androgyny, attitude, gay anthems (Dear Mr. President, Raise Your Glass, Get The Party Started, etc.) and history of activism, there is an intangible but decidedly queer appeal to her. Like Gaga, for some reason, Pink draws an audience of boys who were told they weren't tough enough, and girls who were told they weren't pretty enough. She was always outspoken and straight forward and supportive of minorities but nowhere near pop culture, which is indeed the status quo of the gay community. In fact she dissed pop culture and everything gays stand for a lot. She is a rebel, she is a feminist, she supports equality and LGBT rights but she has been against everything "queer" definiton stands for. That makes her a great ally but definitely not an icon. Your post makes no sense whatsoever. She can diss pop culture, but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t a part of it. and explain to me how she can support equality and LGBT rights but be against everything “queer”? You can see in this video she is making a parody of everything that most gays adore though. Don't get me wrong. I am not saying she is not a good artist or not influential. I just cannot remember growing up and considering her as a gay icon. I Wantth your Love...I Wantth your Love.
Bt1 5,213
I dont think she is an icon. She simply didnt create anything revolutionary during her career. I like her songs, her messages, but u need more to be an icon.
Harris Walz 2024 1,451
P!nk is all about people who have been marginalized by society. She is every bit a gay icon as Madonna or Gaga

You think a song and video which is entirely about Pink's rejection of our culture's gender norms, and is a celebration of outcasts, proves she isn't a gay icon? You don't need to be vapid and glamorous to be a gay icon. Arguably, what most female gay icons have in common, is their ballsyness. Bette Davis, Gertrude Stein, Joan of Arc, Pink...there is a long history of gay icons who embrace their masculine attributes.

On the contrary, in my 30s I am a vivid supporter. But as a teenager watching this video made me feel guilty because I stanned Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, tan and creams and dollies. That's why I told I did not feel her as a gay icon. I felt her more like a social rebel. I Wantth your Love...I Wantth your Love.
ZiggyZiggs 30,053
She’s a female icon than a gay icon imo
JazzGa 14,611
I think she is an icon more for gay women than for gay men, which is why she is underappreciated in the online stan communities. But she's still a gay icon! My old cat is a tough man, but i cant deny the way he bites my hand and he stabs me, he grabs me by my heart <
Bloody hooker 6,445
I don’t think so, but she’s kinda is. This mutual gaze was a “longing to touch” or a "pre-coitus" stare.

McYves 1,612
I truly think she is. She has a very, very strong LGBT fanbase. Maybe she's not saying "i love gays" every 5 seconds like other pop artists but I think that her amazing career and art have been very gay-friendly and very inspirational to LGBT community. I'm not a big fan, but I consider P!nk a gay icon and a music industry icon foremost. Don't wanna kiss, don't wanna touch, just drink my ****ing coffee and watch 90's cartoons and hush
