It has nothing to do with racism. Europe (especially the Netherlands and Belgium) aren't racist at all when it comes to black people. Most of the time they aren't even totally black but they have like "ash wipes" on their face like the picture above. Anyhow I feel sad for kids that believe in saint nicholas and have to hear about all of this on the news so they don't get to experience this equivalent of santa and his little helpers while believing in it You can't deny it has some obvious connections to the colonial period. A dominant white male with black servants, who have earrings, lips, hair and skincolour reminiscent of african people who do all the work. Saint Nicholas sitting on a horse while the petes are standing. Arriving each year on a big boat etc. I came across this video last year. Sums up some good points: Before there was love, there was silence

mister max 18,480
I feel so weird about this whole topic I want to keep the tradition as it is so much fun as a kid to get treats and gifts from them because "you were a good child this year" On the other hand I do get why people elsewhere around the world get mistreated because they are black and blackface is used as an insult towards them I just hope they make Zwarte Piet like they tell he looks like: a normal human being who has some black charcoal stripes because he climbs through chimneys so much. Hopefully that isnt offensive either Buy ARTPOP on itunes or smth?

Gohan 16,413
Holy sh... it's just ashes on some parts of the face, they are not trying to look like a black person. I honestly get so annoyed about these millennials getting offended by everything when they are an offense itself to some cultures and traditions. It's like HeY i DoN't LiKe YoUr CuLtUrE bUt ReSpEcT mInE-aH! Some things are really racist indeed, such as painting your face black in Halloween to dress up as a slave. But in this case, it's just reminiscing how Pete falls down a pipe and SOME parts of his face gets ashes 48 minutes ago, hausofcy said: They're black because they jump through chimneys to get presents in little kids' shoes on saint nicholas day. ShockPop 7,747
The spice girls were always a political force, though. This should come as no surprise. Geri always was their main voice of social change with both Mel's next and the other 2 as ornaments. Their big fight was for feminism but homophobia and racism were close by. So many people paint them as this girl band with some catchy tunes who sold a bunch of records. That just scratches the surface. They were outspoken activists after Lennon had died and before Gaga was famous. They were the ones meeting the Dalai llama, Nelson Mandela, Clinton, Geri forged an alliance with Prince Charles and they made sure to have big money on their side especially in the UK with top paid politicians and celebrities pandered to in order to influence their public perceptions. They were an incredible force for change.
DutchHooker 8,490
OMG, This topic... I'm not going to start an arguement, but I'm pro Black-Pete and I'll defend him till I close the coffin. The people need to accept our culture and stop being so SJW, because we'll just continue. The people and the media who bow to them are just weak. We need DarkGa with Bops so we can rule the industry again and learn the other popgirls how to snatch 'em wigs to ultimate baldness!!
