At the end of the day music is a form of media/entertainment just because I like an actor's role in the movie or like that character doesn't mean I like them in real life or their previous efforts. I can purchase one album from "Artist X" and not like all their other albums, why should I label myself a fan of "Artist X" when I dislike more of what they offer than like. A fan is someone who likes the majority of what you do. A fan also has emotional value attached to the artist beyond just their music. There are many consumers who simply label themselves "Music Fans" and have a huge music library (whether it be physical or digital) example: theneedledrop on Youtube. If I bought over 100 albums does that make me a fan of all 100 artist lol, it kind defeats the whole purpose of what being a fan of an artist is. Stan is fairly a new word and its when a fan is having an unhealthy obsession with the artist (if we take the literal meaning). I don't consider myself a Gaga stan because stans will often view their idols as gods and deem everything they do or say as absolute or rightful. When we say stan on GGD as in "Slay, we stan" , its kind of tongue and cheek thing.
