This is my hypothesis + takeaway from the largely misunderstood ARTPOP by Lady Gargoil!

ART: Anything which is done deliberately, with a distinct vision & opinion

POP: Popular culture, the images & topics which hold the world's attention

To understand ARTPOP we first need to understand art. There are two main components of an artwork...

The Medium: The medium is the work itself, it is what the artist does, it is what the viewer experiences, it is the work itself, the process of making the artwork. Without this, there is nothing, for it is the material by which the subject matter is conveyed. It is the paint, it is the clay, it is the dancer's body, it is the singer's voice.

The Subject Matter: The subject matter is the message of the art, however the message is an illusion. It is not there, and it is not the artist's purpose either. For instance, a tree within a painting is only an illusion created by the medium itself, the paint and the canvas. It is an excuse for the artist to create.

ARTPOP is a reverse Warhol experience, so we have to understand what Warhol did...

Andy Warhol was an artist, who's medium of choice was painting, screening, sculpture, photography and more. What Andy Warhol did with the pop art movement was take the recognizable icons and imagery of popular culture, and use them as the subjects of his own work. As a result, drawing attention towards his chosen mediums, and thus elevating the value and importance of that work.

In order to reverse this phenomenon we have to understand the inception effect...

lololol.jpg

The Inception Effect: Inception, it is a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream.

Why is the inception effect important? Recall, the subject matter is housed within and created by the medium. For instance, a painting is simply paint and canvas which creates the illusion of the painted subject. However, once this painting has been photographed, the entirety of that medium has become the subject matter of another medium. What was once real, the paint, the canvas, the smell, the touch, is now an illusion, as the subject matter has always been. It is now trapped within another medium.

Accept that anything can be art, and so the work of running a business is an art. Selling merchandise is an art, selling fast food is an art. A television advertisement is an artwork. Take magazine Advertisements for example, they may be painted with physical medium, or perhaps painted digitally, or maybe the medium is photography. However, the true medium of a magazine advertisement is business, sales, money. That is the work of the advertisement. Just as the painting can be entrapped by the flash of a camera, the work of the artist is trapped within another artwork. Becoming the illusion, or the puppet of another medium. In the case of the magazine advertisement, that medium is the medium of The Fame. The imagery is merely an attention grab, drawing value to the medium.

The reverse Warhol experience takes symbols and imagery from classical art, and uses them as the subject matter of another work, a fame work. This significance of the traditional, renaissance imagery is the focus on the art itself. The fine art, the grueling art, the work of the art, the art which spoke for itself. Gaga is a Fame Artist. She works with the medium of fame, this is how she became famous. To paint, one paints, to sculpt, one sculpts. To be famous one must be seen. Fame is the art of popularity, the art of being renown. Gaga worked with that medium, and using that medium she has placed shallowly, the icons of another medium. It is shallow, because it is the subject matter. It is an illusion. It is superficial. The ARTPOP cover is not actually the painting of Venus, nor the sculpture of Apollo and Daphne, they are merely there as a prophecy, foretelling what is to come.

Gaga, as a musical artist, has been trapped within the fame medium. In which, she and her artwork are merely textureless, superficial subject matter. Until...

tonyyy.jpg

While Gaga is a fame artist, she is also a musician. She is an artist, she is a musician, and she is famous. Cheek to Cheek is not a stroke with the fame brush, however. While it might seem like a novel idea, to outwit the audience and do something seemingly unexpected... little is blatantly lucrative about doing an album of classical jazz standards with an icon of eras gone by. However, Gaga is famous. And so, she has our attention. Cheek to Cheek is Gaga's musical redemption, it is her opportunity to return the value to the singer, to the musician, to the musical artist who works within the medium of music. To the musical artist who was trapped within the medium of the business, the medium of moneymaking, the medium of The Fame. Who's musical authenticity and freedom was pushed aside. There is no illusion, the music speaks for itself. It is the moment when flashy outfits and eye-catching set-pieces are replaced with vocal agility and live music. Gaga created a reverse Warhol experience by returning value and appreciation to true musicianship. There needn't be any illusion to draw the attention of the audience, for there is once again a true appreciation for the music itself. Gaga outwitted The Fame Monster... for now at least.

Warhol also brought random people to fameĀ :koons:Ā In the reverse Warholian experience maybe is this why she featured the topic of the end of her fame with ARTPOP 'LADY GAGA is over'?

SheĀ also wants to be seen as a normal/random person as she said in an interview 'we're just artists, I'm noda Goddess from the sky who went to Earth to sing pop music' or something like that

Follow every rainbow till you find your dream

Not sure why you decided to attack me, the OP literally says ā€œI donā€™t get enough attention so here we areā€. I decided to (jokingly) respond to that part of the thread, saying that if he wants attention, he should post about something monsters never quit talking about, aka ACT 2.
