Well turns out neither did anything so it doesn’t matter anymore

We shouldn't worry about that. Joanne is a great album, it has a hit single (Million Reasons), it's platinum and Grammy nominated, we got the Superbowl. :) Everything turned out good.

That’s subjective, but like I said I’m happy Gaga did what she wanted to do, had control, and was happy making it. Even if I don’t like the album that much it doesn’t matter I am always happy she was able to do what she wanted to do. It’s my least favorite Gaga album has somebody good songs but the only album I barely ever go to. I’m very happy with what Joanne did as well.

John Wayne isn’t strong as a lead single

Dancin In Circles wouldn’t have made any sense as a lead either. It would’ve been panned

A-YO or Perfect Illusion were the best choices and I think PI was the best choice overall. With Spotify promo and an actual radio+TV push it would’ve done well. No one knew Gaga was back until Winter 2016/2017 with VSFS, SNL, Carpool Karaoke, SB51

Don't try it PI had a radio deal bigger than even no tears left to cry by Ari this year, it just flopped. A-YO should have been the lead

not in ARTPOP and gaga's planned followup hun :poot:

Lol girl, Gaga was depressed during ARTPOP partially because her label wouldn't let her do what she wanted. No more dragging of ARTPOP, Gaga envisioned it as a masterpiece of pop culture

The label pushed PI for sure and Gaga was probably pissed and promoted A-YO instead

Too bad neither really took off :rip:

yuck a-yo as lead would have been horrendous.

I always thought that the singles from ARTPOP were chosen by Gaga's management/ Troy rather than the label itself?

OT: We been knew :applause:I think Gaga's success at re-branding herself as a legendary, multi-faceted and talented entertainer the last 4 years has probably made Interscope realise that they should trust her instincts as an artist more. From what I read of that interview, it sounds like Gaga makes a lot of the final calls herself, but will listen to her label and take on suggestions.

I've never agreed with people who accuse her of surrounding herself with 'yes people', when it seems kinda obvious to me that Gaga likes to create art in a collaborative environment where she gets to work with people who challenge her as an artist.

No it certainly doesn’t. Just fun to theorize about what could’ve been in a nonserious sense

While you all argue about what should've been the lead for Joanne, Million Reasons was the clear choice here. I mean, how can you listen to an entire album (Joanne) and think A-YO or Perfect Illusion should be the lead single when you have Million Reasons which is clearly the stand out song?! And a more accurate representation of what she wanted to achieve with Joanne. A toned down version of hers. Nonetheless, glad they chose it as the second single.

Lady Gaga: first female artist to be respected by her label

Queen of being acknowledged by her record label just as her contract had ended :diane:

Exactly, her managers ruined everything for her :toofunny:

Ridiculous. Gaga blasted them herself for editing all of her pre-2014 vocals smh

Wait, what?? I missed this! Do you have the source anywhere?

He and the label seem super supportive of her (even after some mess about Kesha). I think them suggesting some ideas for her is probably the best thing, because she appears to take their guidance, and I feel like that probably helps her not feel like she's being forced into anything, while at the same time they're putting her on a good path.

Did you read the article? This is about John Janick, the president of Interscope who took over in 2014.
