I Don’t Like The ASIB Poster

Sorry but I feel like I had to make this thread because I hope someone else agrees...

The entire film is so aesthetically pleasing, from the neon-lighted stage scenes to the nature scenes when they’re on the motorcycle. but the poster...

1) the color scheme is unattractive. Black and White and a color almost never looks good except with red (see BTW album cover, Sin city poster). Black white and gold is such a terrible color scheme to me. They could have used a color shot and it would have looked 10x better.

2) the scene on the poster - i personally would have preferred a scene where they’re both on stage singing in the same mic, it would be intimate but also epic. To me the poster doesn’t really capture the epic quality of some of the live performances in the film which are honestly the highlights of the film . It’s just Gaga and Bradley, but in my opinion it doesn’t capture the nature of a film called “A Star Is born”. It makes it look like just a romance when in reality it’s much bigger than that.

I think it works well - the black and white counteracts their happy, smiling faces so it eludes to there being sad/problematic undertones. That's how I take it anyway.

The color scheme is pretty universal and stark, and the movie is a romantic drama first of all though. Gold shines out from the background as Ally earns her star, and their love story is the central plot of the movie :flop:

I have to agree. I love posters that make an artistic statement. Like the poster for the new Suspiria, for instance.

Not saying that great posters can’t have people on them  the one for Moonlight is a great example), but this design lacks any of the artfulness of the movie itself.

disagree I think it's incredible it's got Oscars written all over it because of the golden text

Personally I think the black and white image with the gold title looks beautiful, it has a really classic and timeless quality to it, but then again I love gold so :huntyga:

I think this would have made a nice photograph for the poster, I think the whole composition of it is amazing. With that said though, I think the actual poster is amazing :flutter:

I don't really like the poster either, I think it's pretty basic, especially to the standards of movie's posters these last years. When I first saw it, I thought it was something temporary, for the first journalists promo... It looks very fanmade, there was a potential to do something better.

I think they should've used the Shallow scene (when they perform it at Jackson's concert, Ally's first big live show) and the writing coud've been silver or smth
This poster looks like a rom-com about two singer-songwriters from New York or something.

Not every movie poster has to be all artsy and stuff. This one is meant for the masses. Hence the simple poster. Black, white and gold is a universal colour scheme, it resonates with everyone.
