Hot 100 is a chart that reflects songs that are... well, hot, not songs that people pay money for.

That does make sense, but streaming shouldn't be as weighted as it is. Sales are much more important than streams because if you buy a song, you think it's good enough to buy. I could stream a song and hate it, but it will still count for the chart.

But thats 1 stream and you would never go back to it. That’s worth 0.000625% of 1 purchase so clearly its weighted correctly.

The biggest evil is still radio because its not consumer driven. Streaming is.

But millions of people DO pay for the music. Over 50 million people in the US pay for a subscription to either Apple Music or Spotify. Thats 15% of the country’s population. Even when sales were huge, #1 songs would sell like 400,000+ a week. Now theyre selling 30,0000-50,000 a week.

I'm talking about the non premium accounts.

Saying that streaming ruined the industry is so short sighted. It saved the industry. People having access to services like Spotify and Apple has helped fight piracy in such a huge way.

If you look at the Hot 100 as the bible of music for dictating the popularity of a song, then sure. But it isn't a new thing for chart rules to not truly reflect the popularity of a song. Don't Speak by No Doubt - a classic - didn't even chart on the Hot 100 because it didn't receive a commercial single release in the US at the time. A stupid decision by their team, but it was #1 on airplay for 16 weeks :rip: That was 1996, so... yeah.

Your fav not getting number ones because they can't pull Spotify numbers doesn't mean that the "industry is ruined".

Which hardly have any effect considering only Spotify offers a free version.

The BB200 rule change accounts for the free vs paid streams and it showed that most pop and rap albums benefit from a heavy amount of paid streams.

I’ve heard Chained to the Rhythm twice on Radio One this week and haven’t heard Shallow at all :air: (on ANY station)

I feel like what streaming killed is actually illegal downloads. I don't even remember the last time I download a leaked album. I just can't be bothered to go through the whole process when I know the album will be on Spotify soon.

true, especially now that albums generally don't leak a month before their release as they did some years ago... At least, last time I checked (it was Madonna rebel heart... The leak has been a mess, and it wasn't even the finished album)

I'm a real Fire CRRRACKERRR
