Guys, I'm genuinely scared and sick to my stomach.

As a lesbian girl who dreams of finding the perfect girl, marrying her and adopting kids together, I'm truly terrified he might try to take that away.

(There's a loophole in the Law that allows a gay couple to adopt a child, because they don't specify that the two people adopting have to be male and female. As long as they're married, it's all good. If he revokes the "Stable Union" for homossexual couples, or decides to cover up that loophole... )

I am so sorry love, I can't imagine how scared you might be. Please stay safe, and know that the LM community is here for you whenever you need it

I am really sad because most of the people around me (especially minorities) are scared. The sentence I've heard the most recently is "Take care of yourself". And it's quite understandable why. Racism, homophobia, chauvinism and xenophobia are not being hidden anymore. People are afraid of truly expressing themselves in public, whereas the ones who blindly support Bolsonaro are being aggressive and insensitive. The next four years will be difficult for us, but we will not lower our heads to fascists!

ok but... why did people vote for him? Is brazil more "right" than I thought or??? someone educate me cause I don't know sh*t about this.

This is a protest vote. People tend to vote for a candidate that is strongly against the current administration. Even if that candidate is a monster. It happened in the USA, it happened here in the Philippines.

In the words of our Savious Gaga, "Brazil, Im devastated."

I am from Brazil too and I am also very scared. Brazil is already the country that kills the most LGBT people and now, since the homophobics have the endorsement of the president, the attacks are increasing. He also wants to legalize guns, so I'm not going to gay clubs anymore.

Many factors lead to his election: the rejection of the left politicians, a huge economical and political crisis in Brazil, the absurdly high crime rates and the rise of the fundamentalist christians who wants all of the society to live according to their beliefs.

The bright side is: He is incredibly dumb (actually, he did not attend any of the presidential debates because it would show how unprepared he was). So, the chances of his government being a disaster in many levels are very high, and in this case the right wing politicians will get demoralized around here and I will get to rub it on the face of everyone I know that voted for him.

Awful news. A bad day for democracy in Brazil.

I’m not very informed on him but I read he wants to ‘develop’ more into the Amazon rainforest.

This is a NIGHTMARE for biodiversity and the world.

Wait what?

First of all, it's important to understand Brazil's situation so far. More than voting for Bolsonaro, people are voting for change. Unlike countries like the USA, Brazil is one of the most corrupted and violent countries in the world. The socio-political situation in the country is very complicated, Bolsonaro's election is not as shocking as Trump's. The USA with Obama were not as bad as Brazil, so electing Trump was a sign of ignorance and stupidity. Electing Bolsonaro is far more understandable.

Besides that, his party doesn't have the majority of the Congress, so he won't be able to achieve lots of his ideas.

It’s really scary that some people think its okay to be homophobic now because Bolsonaro won. Or racist, or hateful in general. Brazil is already such a violent country and where more LGBTQI people are killed already. And many women are killed in daily-basis as well.

He became an idol, a symbol for everyone to express these awful feelings, people call him “the myth”, I mean it really seems like fascism

But I still hope things will be okay. As Gaga said, love trumps hate!

Because he's not the party that's been in power. He's different. Even if it's an atrocious different.

the moment that it was announced that he won, my whole neighbourhood started celebrating and screaming things like “now the f*gs will die” and stuff like that. its really scary because not only is he a homophobe, racist mysoginistic piece of sh*t but he is 100% pinochet inspired: political repression, dictatorship politics + neoliberal economy. he has said many times that he wants to allow foreign countries (usa) to “develop” Amazon Forest, that means, to take it down to explore minerals and agrobussines. its really a dark time for brazilians, many people voted for him only because they are scared of the violence and unemployment rate that keeps growing since the 2016 coup d’etat but he will only increase our problems and make our society even more dangerous.

not to mention that his supportes call him “mito” = myth, legend. he is completely venerated and there is a real pesonality glorification, he can do anything he wants and they will still love him, its worse than trump...
