Is Broadway recorded and released?

I'm happy that Gaga might get a Tony nomination or award, but do we even have the chance to see its final production?

As far as I know, I haven't seen theatrical performances being recorded and released, does this mean the audience who get to see the show are very limited, and only physical attendees get to see it?

Even then they only get to see it once, as opposed to movies, TV shows and concerts which can be viewed at any time and for as many times as you want.

I'm confused, should I be excited that Gaga is starring in Funny Girl?

I've rarely ever seen Broadway shows get recorded so I highly doubt this one will be. If anything it'll get remade into a movie again

No, is just like Vegas shows, Cirque du Soleil, David Copperfield etc... the point of Broadway is for you to go see the show at Broadway :huntyga:

They are also used to attract tourists.

So there's nothing to be excited for? :huntyga:

I mean when she announced Enigma, the fans who don't get to see it in person can at least watch the videos recorded, this is a whole other level kind of niche. :huntyga:

Gaga truly forsaking the entire world apart from US.

There are rare cases - I’m hoping this is one of them - that popular revivals get a television broadcast. The last revival of Falsettos had a special taping for PBS for example. I’m really hoping they do this with Gaga because I cannot afford to fly to New York. It’s a popular revival and she is a legend, so fingers crossed.

At first I was thinking...ugh just more time that she isn’t recording albums but a broadway production doesn’t last for a super long period of time. Plus she’ll be localized in NY so she will still be able to write and record in her free time

The actual show itself probably won't be recorded. But a soundtrack with the current cast may happen  even that may not happen

There's some precedent for broadcasting Broadway shows on television (they did it with the Legally Blonde musical and A Light in the Piazza, if I recall correctly), but it's by no means a given. I wouldn't count on it.

In terms of a studio recording, if Gaga is originating the role in the revival, then she'll be in the cast recording (nearly all Broadway musicals, including revivals, get an official recording). But if she's stepping into the role later, it's highly unlikely they'd release another soundtrack. Again, there's precedent for releasing a new soundtrack when a very big name joins a cast (don't ask me to name any examples! I used to be really knowledgable about Broadway but it's been years since I've paid close attention to it), but you definitely couldn't count on it. Basically they'd release another soundtrack if they thought they'd make money on it.

Me too. It sucks how this is a major project for her yet 90% of her fanbase won't get to see the final production. I hope it gets broadcast.

Knowing us, we will probably nag everybody who worked even the slightest bit on it to record it and sell it to us. Which should not be a problem? Considering lots of money can be made from people who don't have time or don't live anywhere near the show. Why don't they want to take our money?
