ASIB is based on Mariah's Glitter

The dream of an aspiring singer who falls in love with her producer/guitarrist?

Been there, done that. They copy pasted Glitter by Mariah and made a new version.

We fall from the Glitter now.

Glitter was a terrible movie!

Then if it was so terrible, why did Bradley copy the whole script to make ASIB?

Actually you're not so far off, except it's flipped.  Glitter was actually an attempt for A Star Is Born partial remake, just like West Side Story is a play on Romeo and Juliet ☺

Technically, the ASIB story came first.

But let's all give it up one time for the big GLITTER!!  I always said had it been a tv movie on Lifetime or whatever, it would have been huge.  :bon:

Honestly, that's what I thought when I watched it too. That ending especially was a dead ringer for Glitter. But of course I don't think that was its intention. Glitter was obviously based on many stories just like it. The whole story is a big cliche, it's just a matter if you can tell a good story with it or not. ASIB succeded, Glitter failed. I still remember ToddInTheShadows saying during the ending: "You can actually hear this movie literally trying to will itself to become The Bodyguard" and then played a clip of Whitney hitting the big note in I Will Always Love You over Mariah's singing. :toofunny:

it's a cliched story told so many times... it's what's done with the story that amasses the difference

It reminded me of glitter too (especially the last scene) but then i remembered glitter came out in 2001 and the original asib came out in 1937 :laughga:
