ASIB was ruined for me

I saw the movie yesterday and I think reading reviews and watching all trailers, interviews and previews ruined it for me. :messga:

I couldn't forget that I was looking at Gaga acting. And constantly thinking ok she did good here, ok Gaga I see your here, etc. :saladga:

And I knew how amazing the reviews are so I was kinda waiting for something to happen and shake me up, but it just didn't. And I never truly started seeing them as a couple.

Titanic makes me tear up and ASIB didn't, I'm so sad tbh. And I see that the story is emotional and great and I should resonate, but it didn't happen.

What's wrong with me, should I try again? Is it because of too much info before? Or maybe because I'm obsessed with the lead actress? Anybody with a similar experience?

Go watch it again with a less critical eye. I’ve ****ed up the experience before by being too critical.

I mean it’s hardly a surprise you didn’t become invested given that you kept viewing Gaga as Gaga and noting her strengths and weaknesses.

Maybe go again and clear your mind of all preconceptions

It's bound to happen, that gaga fans are focusing more intensely on the film. But it's kinda like if you had a sibling in a movie... it would be hard to like... be convinced.

This^ :laughga:

I'm expecting to relive AHS: Hotel. I could NOT separate The Countess from Gaga because she's just such a big part of my life  I'm still gonna cry like a little bitch though :staymad:

I had the EXACT same problem. Give it a day or so, and you’ll love it and then rewatch it.

I was hoping it would wreck me emotionally, and I barely felt some empathy :(

I was LEGIT going to make a post for this as we had parallel experiences. I felt somewhat let down mainly because I knew so much about the film and the songs. I really wanted heartbreak at the end and just didn’t feel it.

Going to see it again tonight (and tomorrow  :huntyga:) with the advice of a less critical eye. Sometimes we are TOO critical of our Queen.

I felt a really similar way at first. I saw it for the first time on Tuesday and was a bit overwhelmed by gaga and I felt that I didn't feel what the movie was trying to make me feel because I was too focused on looking for moments for people to impressed by gaga. It was just bizarre. I felt like I was trying to please everyone in the theater even though I have absolutely nothing to do with gaga's performance or the audience's perception of it. BUT I saw it again last night and it was completely different. Now that I wasn't totally obsessed with gaga's performance, I was able to appreciate the message and impact that the film was trying to send and it so much more rewarding for me. I am seeing it tonight and Friday night and I feel like I am going to appreciate it more and more each time. SO to answer your question, yes I would try again and I think you'll be happily surprised with the outcome.

I guess you aren’t as emotional a person as you first thought then...

The problem is that I didn't believe in the emotional story that I was watching, I was watching two people play characters
