I can't watch it atm what does she say? :selena:

Overall it's pretty positive. There are some negative aspects to it—as with all movies—but it's overall positive.

OT: I was just going to post this!

WildAmerican

To summarize: she liked it. She said it was too long, definitely an Oscar contender, and the music was good but not great. The directing and the performance are the best things about it.

I'd say it's like 90%-95% spoiler free. I haven't watched the movie (I'm gonna watch it on Saturday), but I didn't hear anything that I wouldn't not have wanted to hear.

For anyone who's seen the movie, I'm curious, do you agree with her faults? For example, I've never heard anyone say that the movie felt too long, and I certainly haven't heard anyone but her say that the music was just "okay."

Miracle

Her capitalist white feminist commentaries in the end of the review were really uncomfortable to watch. It was a pretty consistent review (even though I skipped some parts that seemed to be non spoiler free) until she got to the #MeToo part.

I love Grace, we’ve tweeted each other in the past & just recently last night about this review. Her reviews are always genuine & informed & if the capitalist money side of the review makes you uncomfortable then get over it. That’s what Hollywood is, or any business for that matter. At the end of the day she gave the review & mentioned everything that plays into the movie including how it performs at the box office.

You were uncomfortable by her bringing up something that not only is in the movie but also how it ties into what’s going on in our culture right now? I guess by bringing up something other people might point out about the movie I’d be a capitalist white feminist too then. It’s not her fault Cooper directed/wrote those scenes that way.

I just was pointing out her lack of understanding of feminity's complexity (especially when she says "women do not act like that", talking about SPOILER but not really spoiler Gaga's screaming scene in the bathroom) is common of dull white feminism

PerfectGUY

I agree with Grace about the #metoo movement and how the movie shows that ultimately, Ally had to sleep with Jackson to get a career and that Jackson wouldn't have helped Ally if he didn't plan a love story
