ASIB competing in Drama category at Golden Globes

Nothing is confirmed yet and I'm not sure which way I think it should go. There have been many a non-comedy nominated for Best Musical/Comedy at the GG's.  It's really strange to include those two together but oh well.  

That is at least one good thing about Oscar....all the films are put in one category "BEST PICTURE".

I left the theater after watching La La Land remembering only City of Stars and Audition (The Fools Who Dream), maybe A Lovely Night as well but that doesn't mean it's not a musical.

Hell I don't even remember any song from The Greatest Showman apart from This is Me.

Because according to you, the audience have to remember the entire soundtrack for it to be classified as a musical.

You’re losing the plot. You brought up the fact that they made 19 songs for the film (so it must be a musical?) yet you barely hear a quarter of them.

You’re sort of proving my point that this film is easily a drama. And no, “not anything with a plot” can be defined as such.

I feel like you have to do a lot of mind gymnastics to call this iteration of Star is Born a musical. I’ve seen it. The songs (as in music and lyrics) are not central to the plot and do not move the story forward. If fact, we never hear any song done in full. They wrote the music WHILE they were filming.

Please tell me again about how many tracks are on the soundtrack though. 

Edit: I live in a world where Emma Stone’s stiff dancing and singing were not even in the same ballpark of talent as Isabelle Hupert in “Elle” and Natalie Portman in “Jackie”. I hope you can drop by sometime?

And I understand your definition, Whiplash for example is a movie about music that is a drama.

But A Star is Born has NINETEEN songs written for it, most media sites classify it as a musical.

Let me also remind you guys how loosely defined that Golden Globe category is, movies like The Martian (a science-fiction) and I, Tonya (a biographical film) have been nominated under those categories.

Sure but the guilds will compare it to BlacKkKlansman (racial tensions and law enforcement), Roma (portrayal of Mexico in the 70s) and Beale Street (wrongful imprisonment of black men). ASIB won't be "important" enough for them.

Black Panther has 14 original songs. Is it a musical?

I can't at LMs arguing over topics they don't know sh*t about. Honestly, no shade, but some people's illiteracy clearly jumped out. 

So, before staring drama and pointless wars, let's wait and see where they choose to submit the movie.

Also, there's this thing called category fraud that most of you seem to not know about. So, once again, before you make any comments - google some things related to the topic, because some of you made yourselves look like Boo Boo the Fool's offspring.

i've seen both. jackie was underwhelming, elle was fantastic. also watched a few longish interviews with isabelle huppert. but go on, please, keep assuming. the arrogance jumped out.

That wasn’t just my opinion. It was the opinion of most critics and journalists. Also, Jackie may have been “underwhelming” for you and Elle may have been “fantastic”, but we’re talking about performances here. Both Portman and Huppert played their roles with complexity. It’s not exactly Emma’s fault that she had the less interesting character.

lol, as if those opinions would invalidate mine. i could cite critics who share my views, but that's not the point. plus, that's again a contradiction on your part because initially you were downplaying my film background but now you seem to imply that since "professional" reception is in alignment with your views, you're the one who is right. sis, you're impossible. 

anyway, i think emma's performance in the whole movie, but especially during the audition segment, was mesmerizing. that oscar was well-deserved.
