The other studios are trying to discredit the movie and the process of how it’s been made, be that with planted press pieces or whatever. They’re not looking to go into her past since it’s moot and won’t change her performance or the reviews for the movie today and right now. She’s just a piece of the puzzle they’re trying to break up. This happens every year - it’s just studio politics. It’s really not some big campaign to “take Lady Gaga out1!!1”. Like I said, from what we know, there isn't anything glaringly problematic, but that doesn't mean something won't get brought up and spun out of control. The film doesn't even need to have anything wrong for it for people to tear into it tbh. There *will* be a backlash. Then there will be a backlash to the backlash. It is the way this goes every year. WB knows something will come, and they probably have strategies in place as they move forward, and hopefully that brings the same end result (a successful Oscars campaign). Pretending like the backlash and nastiness won't happen is just naive tho. Just take those kinds of agenda-driven criticisms with a grain of salt.
