I'm so relieved

Spoiler

There would have been so much backlash if Black Panther didn't win anyway.

They realized Gaga was going to win too many Oscars so they decided to give the others a chance

To be honest if I were the producer of a movie, I wouldn't feel too honoured being nominated for Best Popular Film. It means my film is not good enough to win the actual big prize of the night that is Best Picture.

Good.

I think it would be much better to include "blockbuster" movies in the actual categories they have and not exclude them every year. Maybe it would also help to make the quality of blockbuster movies better, because let's be real, some have been lacking that recently.

The thing with blockbuster films is that there’s nothing special about them that would get them nominated in the big categories. Studios don’t make these films with the intention of winning awards, and the directors know this and don’t expect them to get nominated either.

The only people who get upset that Star Wars or The Avengers aren’t nominated is fans of the series. The actors, directors, studios etc don’t care. And at the end of the day the Oscars aren’t like the Grammys, they reward excellence not popularity.

I was just thinking that maybe it would be helpful for some film makers to see that blockbusters can be considered for an serious Award too when they put effort in their movies. Because a lot of the movies lately follow certain structures and expectations, you already know what will happen... Then you have others - best example Black Panther - that basically get kept swept under the rug because of those movies. If you know what I mean. It's just basically, to maybe create better versions of blockbusters, because some could be so much more than a basic spectacle!
