How Did Lady Gaga Succeed Where Other Pop Stars Failed

I agree it all played a role to get to this moment. But she could have squeezed in a big trendy cool pop era in there along the way too which would have been nice.

I also don't think Joanne secured the Superbowl. I know that's what their story is, but who else was gonna do it? As soon as they knew she had an album coming, it was pretty much a done deal.

From what we know about LG6 at the moment, it will be a return to dance/pop, so it's coming. And it will be infinitely more successful coming after ASIB, if the film/soundtrack is as massive as it is shaping up to be. She can return to being weird and experimental, and people will listen because she's re-earned their attention. Big Picture.

And plus, in the meantime, she threw us The Cure and some other Old Gaga goodies (the Super Bowl, big fashion moments, etc.) to hold us over.

And truthfully, releasing Joanne when she did was potentially very smart, because if ASIB is big and people like the music and want more of her, they'll go straight for Joanne for more.

Who knows how the Super Bowl really came about, but considering Joanne was warmly and uncontroversially received, which led to a similarly received Super Bowl set, I don't think it was a bad play either way.

Anyway, I am not saying ALL of that was super deliberate necessarily, but overall, she has played her cards very very well since ARTPOP, and it is paying off.

LG team has done a great job but I also think they have wasted hype/Goodwill quite a bit too. She had so much buzz following her two Oscar performance, Golden globe win, national anthem, and Superbowl yet wasted them on a non trendy album. Let's hope they don't waste this too.

I disagree, because Joanne was a project leading to make ASIB shine which was her true project (with probably better music too). I suspect Gaga knew of ASIB before releasing LG5 and she changed her musical point of view to a one more conservative instead of going with the original point (redone LG5).

She snatched all their wigs, so instead of creating bops they were searching far and wide for their long lost hair.mp3

No lies detected. But I wish they would have mentioned other popstars like Madge, bey, rih, etc who all failed as well.

I must interject. Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan is a MOMENT

and Beyonce in Dream Girls???

not to mention Whitney Houston, Cher...

there is a long lineage of GOOD music icon crossovers into film that ASIB will sit alongside

Madonna may have a had a few good moments but the general consensus is she failed in acting. Ditto for Beyonce. And no one remembera Beyonce in dream girls, that's Jennifer Hudson's movie.

Yes Cher and Whitney succeeded. LG belongs in that group.

Glitter was great, fym. Tommy had it out for Mariah, he's bitter and desperate, it makes sense.

“Glitter” is the perfect Camp movie that year. That is all dear

It actually did. Gaga talked about it in the Howard Stern Show:

On locking down the Super Bowl gig: “The NFL wanted to hear the new record… and it was the record that sealed the deal.”
