brucee 1,690
I was alone with Gaga at this time, none to talk about the news with .... So I guess I bonded an even more personal relationship to her music. I remember blasting Applause to feel better, going to ArtRave alone and smoking joints to MJH like a selfish a$$hole. I felt so bad, and so good at the same time. ARTPOP is still spinning. hello hello baby.
IAmNotHere1997 25,824
Damn. This thread reminded me how awful this era was (of course, in terms of reception). EVERYONE WANTED GAGA TO FAIL. All those over-the-top expectations about how succesful should be...All those hate-article towards Gaga and the promo for album...I don't know how our poor girl managed to survive all the stones thrown to her
Luxe Ford 3,481
I didn't really care about the Gaga backlash. I was just happy she was back on her feet after her hip surgary. I was worried she wouldn't be able to perform again, and that was one of the reasons her iTunes Festival felt like a new dawn on the horizon after years of stumbing in the dark to me. She really was back! What happens in Luxe Ford stays in Luxe Ford

Lord Temptation 11,209
I was in a dark place. I knew the knives were out for Gaga. My friends all were saying “oh another weird costume from that crazy witch” or that “she’s so over, everyone is sick of her now”. Honestly all I had was ARTPOP and dope, ironically. As a serial lurker on this cult site I just expected that the fanbase would be there to support Gaga. Sadly I was mistaken. And yes I do feel partly to blame for not publicly supporting Gaga as much as I should have. I think everyone took Gaga for granted in 2013-2014. GagaUnderYou 4,994
It sucked loving an album that got forgotten. What kept me going is rewatching what she'd already giving us and just not expecting anything else. ARTPOP is super nostalgic for me when I listen to it more than any other album she put out. Hopefully LG6 is the resurrection of the spirit of ARTPOP.

It's my understanding that it was the lowest point in Gaga's career and for the fan base, as well, since there was a lot of backlash aimed towards Gaga. Fortunately for me, I wasn't on social media looking for Gaga at all. All I remember from that year was Applause and the VMAs performance. And unfortunately, at the same time, I wish I was around so I'd have come to her defense when everyone was trashing her. I googled Gaga with the time set back to 2013 just now just to see what the media were saying about her and I must say, they were really harsh. They were comparing her "lack" of success with Katy Perry and Eminem. So how was it for you as a Little Monster to see your girl at the top for five years and then 2013 happened? NOTE: I know this era was one of Monsters fave but I'm specifically talking about the public perception. The gp. i think that gaga stated in howard stern that at that period, she became disgusted with people and was so fed up with all of them. i totally understand because randomly in january 2014 (a period where the backlashes had already started) my depression started. i fell in love with a straight classmate and i was refusing myself everyday for this because of my orientation. i became so depressed and closed in myself and i felt the same way as gaga. i know its weird that im describing it like this but 2014 was a hard year for me. i didnt want to talk to anyone, people became so disgusting to me and the depression really hit me hard. i lost a lot of weight in such a short time and everybody was shocked when they saw me i had become skinny. loribb 338
I was really annoyed (and I still am) when someone said it was a flop. Okay it was far less successful than her previous albums, but it sold and done better than any Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande and last few Madonna albums, and had a 3× platinum lead single, with some non-singles reaching high positions in some random countries in the world. Call that a flop. It was just trendy to hate Lady Gaga and love Katy Perry at the time.

NOTE: I know this era was one of Monsters fave but I'm specifically talking about the public perception. The gp. I went college every day with that album playing continuously in my years. 5 years on and I loved it from day 1 and I’s still class it as Gaga’s BEST and most ambitious album. It’s my favourite album from her discography and it’s slowly being more appreciated by the fans too. There’s an emotional depth to it only true fans of the album will understand. It has a deep anger, pain and fury, and you can feel that in all its songs. The era’s looks were probably some of her best, and that Alan Carr performance of DWUW was her most pleasing vocal performance back then. I never really had to survive much because I loved the era, but stan twitter turned in to a complete mess. Where we once ruled, we became the flop stans. But the irony of it all lies in the fact Gaga still had a #1 album, selling over 3M copies worldwide (probably 4M with streams), with two top-ten hits and a multiple-platinum lead. No better than everyone else was doing. Her career was stable, despite the fact critics and stans telling you she was “over”. Since then, she came back fighting. Jazz gave her a break and nurtured her vocal talents to become what they are today. She dominated the jazz singles and album charts for two years running. 2015 came and she practically saved her career with the Oscars tribute. And since then, won a Golden Globe, did the Superbowl and will now probably dominate the Oscars next year. After that? An enriching acting career. Gaga will never be over. This is only the beginning Taylor, Katy and Beyonce can only dream of having a career as versatile and awarding as Gaga’s. hELXIG 43,303
Enjoyed the music and performances. Forgave her for not completing tasks she promised to us, and tried to understand that it's not all her fault. Made a lot of rants standing up for her when people turned their backs on her and sent her hate. Bought a few copies of the album, streamed it online, liked every video. I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
Schizophonic 7,015
There was s lot going on at that time. the r kelly thing, the terry thing, the app thing, the troy thing, the second perfume mess. and its not like the fans were that nice to her during that time. all alone the app, the docu and the dwyw video drove the monsters crazy. a bit later during her sxsw performance, the interviews around it and the guy time it got completly weird and i had the feeling she really wanted to quit. plus she got weider and even more high on every interview. misunderstood 8,736
To this day I will forever feel bad for ARTPOP. Being an artist myself it pained me to see such excitement about this era (the app, the concept, etc.) Go to **** because her manager left her. Also her injury affected it as well and halted the process. I just really feel bad for Gaga at the time and ARTPOP because it reminds me of someone who was forgotten and treated badly. She got treated like **** in the media and that just further solidified my dislike for the media that I already had. Seeing so many people act as if the album is complete garbage (everyone is entitled to their own opinion though at the end of the day) made me sad as well, I just felt so bad because she tried her best to get it done, finished it a month before it came out, was so passionate and excited to bring art to the forefront just to have it go to **** breaks my heart. It's my second favorite album and it was done so wrong and it makes me sad. Basically the music kept me through it, the visuals as well also the fun memories that did happen "I'd rather be poor and happy, than rich and alone"
