Well, I didn't like "Applause" back then, even when I was a mega fan, so idk. (Lovee it now) Loved DWUW and mixed with G.U.Y.......But, the worst song of her career came and you guys know what it is. :saladga:

The ARTPOP era was really shocking for me. I think everyone was expecting Gaga to come back with these safe pop bops rather than the experimental singles she put out, i know that they are pop but when Applause came out it was like nothing i'd ever heard before, same with DWUW and GUY, she really was totally different to the current scene at the time. Everything she put out previously fitted in to the time it was released or set the trend for it but ARTPOP seemed to just stick out like a sore thumb and not in a bad way but it just seemed odd to the gp. I think the luke warm gp reception was partly triggered by the timing of her so called comeback, it was put to the gp as a comeback for Gaga but it didnt feel like she had been away long enough for a proper comeback and it felt like she had been away too long to still seem as cool and fully relevant in pop culture. It felt like she was already a throwback artist, having all those big hits several years ago and then nothing for a couple of years after. However i loved the era for all its output and tried to encourage friends to like it too. But here we are 5 years later and Gaga has just had another #1 single in the UK for multiple weeks and she has become one of the biggest legends of all time at this point. So its turned out well in the end commercially with the gp. But i must admit the off reception that the singles got made me question whether i really did like the songs at the time but i love them now.

well, it was frustrating. because the album is incredible, no doubt about it.

but dealing with so many negativity was a pain in the butt because while we were trying to enjoy the era the amount of hate was distracting, you either jumped to everybody’s faces (or comment sections) in her defense or (if you were cooler, which I wasn’t back then btw) you’d just let go and ignore it.

plus aside from the usual hate groups that were literally orgasming from her “takedown” (medonnesters, mean katycats, and usual haters), there was also the Roar vs. Applause thingy that was just too depressing and childish. it literally blew up so big it surpassed the fandom environment and reached the GP, which of course found it entertaining. radio declared the winner tho (we now know about payola of course but back then it was just sad).

and on top of all that there was the drama in behind the curtains. Troy left her by herself, Venus didn’t get the video treatment it deserved, then DWUW mess happened and a lot of us hated her then for that(myself included). but it was of course not her fault and she was trying her best the entire time.

then G.U.Y happened and it was/is just as amazing as expected. an awesome song (honestly still one of my favorites by her) with an incredible and fresh video. but everybody (the GP and radio) had already turned their backs on her so it was bound to miss recognition, even tho the video received praised mostly everywhere, as it should cause it’s amazing.

but, honestly, now we can say proudly, look at who’s Lady Gaga in 2018, b*. only we know she’s just as amazing as she was in 2013. people are the worst tho period

Overall I really enjoyed the era as a whole, I was more disappointed by the fact that Venus got changed as a single than not releasing the DWUW video, the only truly weird moment for me was the SXSW performance, I honestly don't remember that much backlash apart from that performance

Let's not forget the great Roseland shows as well

lots of hours spent in forums and youtube and any possible place where they'd drag GAga to try and refute them.

Since i was too lazy to make an account here, and didnt really liked Little monsters.com, i would be starving everyday for new lewks and gossip, and snipets and whatnot

and the thing was, the besh would give life to this once dried soul, every single day. It was such a crazy ride. So all over the place, frenetic, exciting, mad. Totally my match for those dark days

To be COMPLETELY honest, it was really rocky and rough. I feel like when I really realized it was bad was when I was at H&M and saw ARTPOP on sale at the register for $5 (within a month of its release) and someone closeby said “its such a flop, it has to be on sale for people to buy it” not to mention Gaga overhyping it with unfulfilled projects “album of the millennium” “exclusive songs/videos on the ARTPOP app” “video for every song” “Gaga in space” JUST to name a few...such a disappointment especially since many other pop artists release so much music and have quite the catalog, I have really ached for a lot of Gaga music and material since we had been thirsty since the BTW era.

BUT, when I saw Gaga perform Swine at SXSW and she said “FCK YOU POP MUSIC, THIS IS ARTPOP” along with the interview with John Norris , I came to the conclusion that she’s only playing by her rules and it made it feel ok. The era challenged me to not give a flying fck what other people think and to stay true to your art and thoughts.

So disappointing music/content/video era? Yes.

Overall impact? One of the strongest eras due to the message. :vegas:

I survived because I had other things going on in life and I liked the music so...who cared what anybody said. I had moments I didn't agree with during the era but...whatever

I became a fan when the album came out, and honestly, the ARTPOP era was probably my favorite time being a fan. We got new looks and interviews almost all the time, Roseland was so iconic, she gave us PARTYNAUSEOUS during the ArtRAVE, Brooklyn Nights leaked, GUY becoming a single was so awesome and the music video too. Then CTC came and that was so amazing too. 2014 really was a great time to be a Gaga fan, atleast for me, because I didn’t pay attention to negative comments or whatever.

Honestly, it hurt me a lot. It's not like I was crying but as a fan of Gaga, I just felt really bad for her. She puts so much hard work into her music and art and the media just destroying her must have made her feel like poop. I am glad she survived this era because it was my fav era of hers in terms of the music and visuals.
