Well I don't fully agree with that. I think "writing" a song is not enough to address the song as your own. 

I know "writing" means, in fact, just writing the lyrics but, for example Gaga says she "writes" her own songs when she actually also "composes" them.

The fact even artist mis-use the verb makes it difficult, but I think that to say a song is your own you have to write+compose it
