Yeah for sure, that's an element that I have also thought about - I just do hope it's enough that the backlash isn't huge. 
The other thing to consider is that we are kinda used to Gaga being a frontrunner, or at least deserving, of a win in major categories because she is a highly talented and successful musician. 

I'm sure there will always be some delusional fans that will go on the attack no matter what, hopefully it won't be a big thing.

As much as I love Gaga I could never give her an Oscar over Viola Davis alive! Sorry but she just doesn't stand a chance, she can act but she's not Oscar worthy yet!

Back in '88, Cher won an Oscar for Best Actress on, beating Meryl Streep AND Glenn Close. It was not her first movie, though, and she had been nominated once before, but as a Supporting Actress (4 years prior to that).

I don't have to see any of those movies to know how great of an actress Viola Davis is! I've seen many of her movies and shows and from Gaga we've only seen her in AHS and that role was constructed for her. I mean anyone who expects Gaga to win Best Actress is delusional as F, it's just not realistic.

The Oscar will be handled based on the performance on the movie. If Gaga is really great she deserves it as much as a veteran actress.
