However after research I'm a bit more calm. The concept might seem like an ASIB competitor BUT apparently it's a politically driven, super left-of-center story and if Natalie Portman's repertoire teaches us anything, is that she does a lot of weird sh*t. The part that annoys me most is that Sia wrote for it, because people say her songwriting ability/voice is filling the Gaga-shaped hole in the music industry right now...which automatically pits Vox Lux against ASIB :interestinga: Sia is great in her own way but tbh, those songs she wrote for the Annie remake were terrible.

Sia might have written for it but Natalie is the one singing. Gaga's voice> Natalie's voice. Plus ASIB has the an edge over other musicals because all the singing is live. :vegas:

Plus, Vox Lux is pretty segmented, some even say too artsy and divisive. Definitely not aiming for commercial success. I know the academy has been leaning towards weird indie movies as of lately but even for best original song, the winners always go to more popular songs from popular movies. The closest thing a song from less popular movie *almost* won was TIHTY, and even that lost to a song from a popular Bond movie.

I think our biggest threat is Kendrick Lamar with Black Panther soundtrack. The movie is a huge phenomenon and Kendrick is a very strong name. I don't think ASIB will have an easy competition in any way.

sometimes i feel like they should've just made the movie and not call it ASIB remake and just go with it.

as a LM i'm grateful and thankful and love the franchise and everything related. but this way the critics would not bash it with their stupid "yet another remake" comments. but some critics will always find something to bash so i don't give a F.

i'm curious, did anyone compare it in any way to La La Land? :oprah:

Also, i need to stop clicking on effin Spoilers expecting funny remarks, because i just spoiled myself. :selena:

That’s true. At this point i’m just hoping a best popular picture win would just be enough for Black Panther, and maybe some best costume and production design, and just leave best song for ASIB :triggered:

Anyway, another ASIB-Vox Lux music drama is coming to TIFF, and it’s called Her Smell, starring Elisabeth Moss :lolly:
