ASIB Will Pivot Gaga's Entire Career

This thread is a prediction, but I think there's some truth to a lot of it. Based on early reports and reviews, ASIB is likely to be an awards contender and will likely be somewhat acclaimed or positively received. I believe that if ASIB is a success, financially, critically or on the awards circuit. ActressGa will become much more prominent, and music may take a backseat for some time. If, and this is a big if, Gaga gets a best actress nomination, it pretty much guarantees some level of high quality work, as Oscar nominees can be used in advertisements for projects and are considered the gold standard. All of this is hypothetical, but I think Gaga is hoping to transition to being a movie star and possibly star in high quality television shows. The world of entertainment, ie film and tv is personally much fresher and more interesting to me than music, and I think Gaga may agree. I think Gaga's career may benefit from Gaga being exposed to the gp in the format of television or film, as it's more neutral and they can see Gaga as something other than an eccentric popstar. Does anyone agree? Do you see this as a good thing or not?

Well, she'll probably end up like Cher, coming up with much less and less music throughout the years while doing some awesome acting, but obviously she's gonna come up with even more AMAZING music since she'll get to spend more time on them and it'll be understandable, my advice, enjoy Gaga while we still got her for the next two years in the music business :)

Can't wait for another 40 years when pop music sucks and she comes up with her own Believe! ;)

I do not agree. There are plenty of good actresses around that can carry all the weight of quality film and tv. There's no need or public desire for Gaga to become a movie/tv star. She will always be the singer in people's eyes, and this role is only going to amplify that since it's, right, an iconic musical...

Even if she and the film get great reviews, it will only work to amp up her music career, which of course is a great thing.

I hope she snags that Oscar and receives critical acclaim for her acting role. Then she can choose to do whatever she likes - music, movies, television etc. Down the track too, should could kill it in being in/producing a musical and snag that EGOT!

If ASIB can get the love of the GP, she will get an image boost from the GP. But if she gets an Oscar nom, that will really change her career path that includes more professional acting, then she will really be on the path for critical success instead of commercial. It will further open more doors for her to finally get that EGOT. :queenga:

There is never a need for someone to become a movie star, but Oscar nominees, as in actors and actresses tend to have an easier time getting high quality work. Why limit Gaga to one thing? She can be a singer and actress.

But there is public desire that matters. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway etc. can sing extraordinary well and are publicly and critically acclaimed for their efforts but that doesn't mean anyone would be excited for their solo albums. Then the "stay in your line" public disapproval comes in (à la Madonna, Beyoncé and Rihanna's "acting careers" that never took off).

Works the same way for Gaga. She will never be accepted as a real actress because even though she's good, she's not right for the job. Cher is a notable exception that will probably not repeat itself. But what Cher was able to do is make us forget she was Cher. We have no modern pop star who can manage that, despite good acting. And Gaga will definitely not manage that in a musical where her social role as pop star and quality singer will be in the audience's face the entire time.

You seem to think Gaga is going to be in blockbusters, but I imagine her more in indie films and such. and I think Gaga is a stronger actress than Bey and Madonna, never seen Ri act, but if any pop girl could pull off a Cher it's Gaga. A strong performance is a strong performance even in a musical.

You forgot the fact that people don't even know what "Lady Gaga without makeup" looks like. The public will eat her up. They won't know who the actress is until they see the credits rolling.

99% of the audience will know it's Gaga based on trailers or posters though.

I'm not saying she'll do a bad job at impressing everyone. I'm just saying: "wow, Lady Gaga can act" is different from saying "Lady Gaga is an actress and we can't wait to see her in two movies a year and make less music instead" :ohwell:

I'm just responding to the idea that this movie's success will push her career into a different direction. I think it won't because even though Gaga might be publically and critically acclaimed, I still believe most people will wish her to stay in her music lane. Which I think is a good thing btw.

Well, let's see, she starred in wannabe blockbusters Machete Kills and Sin City 2 and in the hit show American Horror Story twice. Now she's doing an iconic musical with one of the most well-known male actors of our time

If she wanted to do indie movies we'd have seen her in one already.

Gaga might be a stronger actress than those girls, but no matter how well she does, I just still don't think people will applaud her transition from singer to actress. Again, that's like Meryl Streep choosing a singing career. It's just like... no, just do what we want you to do. Sing a few times but stay focused on what we love you for. I think the reverse will be Gaga's case. Just my opinion ofc.

Gurll, come on a 30 million budgeted film is considered the low end of midrange today, and she turned down a role in Birds of Prey allegedly.

I think ASIB + Vegas + LG6 (if it turns out to be as good as I believe it will be) will make her be as relevant next year as she was in 2010-2011. Not only relevant, but widely praised, like Beyonce these last years

There are a chance for that to happen. And she might made singing career as secondary activity than main. If so then forget about touring altgether obviously,

I don’t think she’d let music take a back seat. She’s too good and spent too long carving an avenue for herself to just treat it with a shrug. She busted her ass post-ARTPOP to matter to people again. Even if she acts more (and I’m sure she will), she’s a musician first and foremost in her bones.

Now, could I see her doing broadway? Absolutely. Idk why she hasn’t already, but I see that as a very very obvious and natural next step. Home girl is just too theater to never go into it and they’d welcome her openly because of the incredible strength of her voice and interpretive ability.
